McNeese (5-10/11-17); 4th in SLC/East; 9-5 at home
UCA (2-13/9-19); 1-10 on road

Last meeting: UCA wins at Lake Charles, 58-54

Last 3 games:

McNeese: 4-6 in last 10
L v SELA, 71-61
L at Nicholls, 80-76
Lv Sam, 75-60

UCA: 0-10 in last 10
L at SFA, 61-39
L at SELA, 98-61
L v Nicholls, 60-58

Game Notes: Season has not been what Bears expected but still these teams are not that far apart. The difference is that McNeese has played more consistenly in recent weeks as Bears have definitely struggled to score. Seniors Landrell Brewer and Brian Marks play their last game at the Farris Center and with strong efforts rebouding and on defense could spark the Bears. UCA won at Lake Charles earlier and need to complete the trifecta over the Cowboys (football and both basketball games) in the season finale. Too much talent on the Bears to play so inconsistenly. Hope fans who can get to Farris Center show Landrell and Brian some love.

I am happy we won. I think this win today overall it is something positive that can carry over to summer and into next fall. It was a tough season, but it had a happy ending.

Glad they won their last game. However, one has to do a lot of twisting and turning to say they went out winners. Appears about 46% of those that took the poll on the home page knew what they were talking about. I was not one of them.

Next year will be pivotal for both Chappel and our basketball program. We have a very experienced ball club returning next year with 6 Sr.'s and 2 Jr's. Unless they turn into a MASH unit it will be hard to make excuses for not having a very good season.

They need to sign a couple big guys.

From the LCD:

Assistant coach Kevin Landers substituted for head coach Rand Chappell, who was in west Texas recruiting in the wake of a 10-19 season.

Landers said one of the key areas of emphasis will be recruiting big men to replace seniors Landrell Brewer and Brian Marks.

"When you try to replace big men at this level, it's very tough to do," Landers said. "But we've had some great interest from throughout the country on people who really want to be here."

He said all of the UCA coaches were relieved to break the losing streak and that UCA has one more year of ineligibility for the postseason as part of their transitional status to NCAA Division I.

"None of us on the coaching staff have ever been through anything like that before," Landers said. "We've been really going uphill, but we see the top of the mountain now (the end of the probationary status). With March Madness coming on, you can watch those games and see what we're recruiting against."

Well, they actually got a new coach* for 07-08... And finished 16-13, 10-8.
The 2nd-year man has them at 26-6, 16-2 this year.

So to recap ---
2003-04: 16-13 (8-6)
2004-05: 16-12
2005-06: 16-12
2006-07: 20-8
2007-08*: 16-13 (10-8)
2008-09*: 26-6 (16-2)

So, it's not like they were lighting up the world before they made the move. Their last conference title was in 94-95. But still, there they are, with winning records every year. A down year in 07-08 (their final year before eligibility) still resulted in a winning Summit record.

I'm not sure what point you were trying to make.

Let's throw in our men's records to compare... Chappell has been here since 2003, so
2003-04: 20-10
2004-05: 23-8
2005-06: 18-10
2006-07: 10-20
2007-08: 14-16 (4-12)
2008-09: 10-19 (3-13)
