Basketball scheduling different in Southland
SLC basketball
As noted in Sunday's column, scheduling for University of Central Arkansas football for next year is a challenge because of long-standing commitments on playing dates.
With the cooperation of the Southland Conference, which UCA will join next season, scheduling for the other sports have been much easier because there are more games and more available dates.
Most of the UCA teams will play a full SLC schedule next year although they will not be eligible for titles.
The basketball round-robin has an interesting setup in the SLC. There are no women/men doubleheaders as is the case in the Gulf South Conference. Teams will play single games on the same nights, usually Tuesday and Saturday.
The two schools will play a men's game on the home court of one school and a women's game on the home court of another.
For example, if UCA's men were taking on Texas-Arlington in Arlington, the UTA women would play the Sugar Bears the same night in Conway.
Thus, on every conference playing date, every school has a home game, either men or women.....
