Bears ready to take on another aspect of basketball season

Quote:
University of Central Arkansas men’s basketball coach Rand Chappell said he is excited about entering the second phase of the season.

The Bears (1-5) have completed the Hall of Fame Showcase that had them playing road games at Kansas, Memphis, Oakland University and hosting Tennessee Tech.

The four-game event netted $150,000 for the basketball program.

Next year we should just play Hendrix and CBC 15 times each.

Food for thought...

We lost the 4 games by a combined 94 points, which equals roughly $1595.75 per point. Talk about a fundraiser!

Per-point pricing ... interesting. Imagine if coaches were paid by the point.

That would suck for soccer.

No one is arguing that the Bears are ready to take over the SLC but they have had a pretty decent schedule so far.

Five losses:

#5 Kansas (90)
#33 Memphis (85)
#182 Oakland (71)
#239 Tennessee Tech (68)
#318 Western Illlinois (61)
#335 UCA (59)

It would have been nice to play better against Kansas and Memphis but some very good teams have been whipped very badly at those guys home courts.

They played very well on road against a pretty decent Oakland team. Really the first sign they can be a much better team (75-83).

Loss to Tennessee Tech (67-71) would have been a mild upset even at home but certainly within reach.

The big disappointment is letting Western Illinois (46-56) get away with a win....

Win over CS-Fullerton (66-46) is 2nd solid game in a row.....both on away courts....

No time to be a pessimist.......if Pouncy can heal by SLC time and team continues to make improvements as they seemed to have in last couple of games, we could be in the middle of the SLC pack....not where anybody wants to be but it would be competitive....

Yes, counting losses vs Jayhawks and Tigers the point spread looks terrible........the other three losses are by an average 7 points....these are all within reach of wins.....

Playing Kansas in basketball is like the Football Bears taking on Texas or Florida this year......

If they can win the upcoming away games that would be a great way to end the pre-SLC schedule.... these are all doable although none gimmes....

#330 Southern (58)
#302 UT-Martin (65)
#279 UMKC (65)
#318 Western Illinois (61)

Go 3-1 and that would be a strong step in right direction.....
