UCA (7-15/1-7), 6th in East
Sam Houston State (15-5/7-0), SLC/West leader by 2 games over TAMCC

Bears look to have their paws full. SHS is a good team with some solid OOC wins (at Oral Roberts, at Auburn) as well as undefeated in SLC. They also lost by only 10 at Kentucky. SHS is a solid shooting team with several in high 40s and one in mid 50s plus three very good double digits scorers. BearKats lead in almost all stats categories. Bears need to keep this a low scoring affair with great defense, keep TOs very low and rebound a little better. Our scoring defense has been pretty good this year.

Never say never...a big game on offense by Sheppard and Rueter could could get Bears over the hump....

Half

UCA 36
SHS 41

Mitch Rueter leads Bears with 12...Bears end half with three 3s...it seems SHS runs constantly and Bears have had problems getting back fast enough...SHS is shooting 63% with numerous layups and dunks...Bears are 6/9 from 3s but only 53% from FT...couple poor FTs with weak rebounding and that pretty much tells the story....hit the Fts and we are tied...Bears keep batlting..just about the time it seems SHS hhs it safely put away, UCA makes a comeback....

Stats:

UCA/SHS

FGs: 11/25=44%; 17/27=63%
3s: 6/9=67%; 4/11=36%
FTs: 8/15=53%; 3/3=100%
Rebs: 11; 19
TOs: 7;9

Lost 70-75.
3rd conference loss of 5 points or less.
Only three double-digit losses.

Progress? Your thoughts?

SHS 41-34=75 (16-5/8-0), SLC/West leader
UCA 36-34=70 (7-15/1-7)

No shame in losing to BearKats at their place by 5....Bears were in this one all the way and battled hard....

Mitch Rueter led Bears with a career high 31 (11/20 FGs, 5/10 3s, and 4/8 FTs) and grabbed 6 rebs. Jared Rehmel added 15 on 3/4 from 3s.

Bears shot 3s well and won the TO game by +5.... never gave up....got badly beat on boards by 18 and left 11 points at FT line.....hit half of those we missed and we go to OT....a couple more key rebs and it is tied....

We are one player from the upper third of SLC.....give them credit for continued solid effort.....

Stats:

UCA/SHS

FGs: 41%/52%
3s: 50%/38%
FTs: 16/27=59%; 15/23=65%
Rebs: 25/43
TOs: 11/16

I give the guys a lot of credit for playing for tough. Going to Southern Texas and hanging in there against the team that in most people's eyes the favorite to the represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament is good. This would have been the best win of the year had we won. Free throws and rebounding were the biggest difference in this game.

Mitch had another great game tonight. He has played really well recently. That is a very great to see.

Wednesday night is a huge game against UTSA at home. Let's bring in a huge crowd to the Farris Center and help them get a big win.
