Bears host UTA and SLC TV ...2pm tip from Farris Center

UTA (14-10/6-5), 3rd in West
UCA (8-17/2-9), 6th in East

Except for the MeNeese game (and the Central Methodist debacle) the Bears have played tough at home.......they will need to do that and better to grab a win over the Mavs....the key is slowing down Marquez Haynes, a prolific shooter....UTA averages wins by 2 and Bears avg losing by 2....stats are pretty close except UTA +6 on FT%...that could hurt ...... this is a time for the balanced scoring from Rueter, Shepard, Rehmel, Poellnitz and crew.... if Sheppard is going to shoot 59% FGs then may be get him more shots....Mitch is hitting 45% from 3s in SLC play and that would be nice tomorrow....a good day from Dos Santos underneath would be a big help.....this game is up for grabs...play solid, slow down Haynes, hit FTs and fight for rebounds......need a good crowd to encourage the Bears.....

Go Bears!!

Players:

UCA....
Tadre Sheppard, 8 rebs/59% FGs/1.7Bs

Wow! Stat wise, they are pretty even in many catergoies. This should be a great game. Can't wait to be on tv. 52 is right. Let's have a great crowd out there for the team!

HALF

UTA 32
UCA 21

UTA UCA
Field goals 13-29 44.8% 7-30 23.3%
3-point FGs 3-11 27.3% 3-10 30.0%
Free throws 3-3 100 % 4-8 50.0%
Reb (O-D) 20 (3-17) 21 (8-13) Turnovers 6 7
Last FG 1st-01:19 1st-00:58
Large lead 14 (1st-01:19) 2 (1st-17:28)

Sheppard and Clayborn lead Bears with 6 each......Bears even in rebounds and TOs low and about even....very poor UCA shooting....as low as 10% early and better late in half......MANY missed short putbacks....Bears have held SLC leading scorer Marquez Haynes to only 5 at half (24ppg).....however, Mavs had good balance from Lamarcus Reed (6), Brandon Long (6), Armani Willimas (6), Tommy Moffit (5) and Haynes (5)..... got within 6 late in half then Mavs hit a couple of 3s...

Bears not out but need to win first 5 minutes and get close....

Purple Rage sounds pretty good in background....

FINAL

UTA 32+39= 71
UCA 21+26= 47

Well let's cover the good points from today.....scored more in 2nd half than first......held SLC scoring leader Marquez Haynes 5 below his avg.....did not score a season low.....only 14 TOs.....Sheppard scores double digits at 10 and Poelnitz had 10 rebs.....920+ attendance....

Bears got demolished on boards in 2nd half...held a 21-20 rebound lead at half but ended up losing 34-44....lost 13-24 in 2nd half..led to numerous easy fast breaks by UTA....that and very poor shooting (only 23%...14 for 60) is all it took ...

Next up is Nicholls State on the road Wed...Bears beat Colonels by 64-50 on Pippen Night at home...this is important game for NSU as they try to get into SLC tourney....Bears need to rebound from this outing.....

Go Bears!!

Coach: Played a pretty good team...UTA playing good team basketball in addition to having top SLC scorer....UTA defdedn well nad played a lot of 1-3-1 zone that we never fond many answres...shot selection went down hill...did not move ball well.....Sheppard worked hard to score 10 and Poelnitz had a career high 10 rebounds....

I think unfortunately ya'll just ran into a UTA team that's finally playing some really good basketball. We went a few weeks in Dec.-Jan. where we had lost 3 of our starters due to injury. Now that everyone's healthy, this team is playing some good defense, which created some turnovers and gave us some easy baskets. We're a small team and have no inside game but somehow we've found a way to start outrebounding other teams, which is giving us lots of extra possessions. Watching the game on TV here in Arlington, I was impressed by size and strength of some of UCA's post players. I think if UCA can keep recruiting big forwards like that, ya'll will be pretty good in the near future. Good luck the rest of the way!

Either UTA defense was terrific or our shooting was terrible....we are without a top point guard due to injury and I cannot help but think that is a big factor ....

that top point guard is the number 3 point guard, averages 8.3 minutes and 0.9 points per game and he didn't play last week against Northwestern State when he was still healthy.

Pouncy doesn't run the point he played the 3 in that system..The only true point guard are Dewan and Imad from last year....

I have seen Pouncy play several times and each game he just seems like a player that makes plays and makes things happen....

Yep Pouncy is a player, he know how to win and compete at a high level when he comes back from injury next year, he will have a strong year if he is 100%
