SFA (20-7/104), 1st in East (5-6 on road), assured of tie for East
UCA (8-20/2-12), 6th in East

http://www.ucasports.com/sport.asp?action=news&sportid=6&article=3581

Senior Day at the Farris Center......above link to a nice article on Mitch Quad...pretty impressive that both are well on their way to completing their master's. Proud to have them as fellow alums and lettermen.

Bears could use a big scoring day from leading scorer Mitch Rueter and solid day from Sheppard. This is nothing but pride and SFA might just come in a little flat given they are assured of a tie for SLC/East crown and a good seed in tourney. Jacks get UTSA (8-6) at home on Sat who Bears beat in early in Feb. SFA could still tie for crown if SELA wins both home games vs McNeese and NWS and SFA drops final two. ...not likely and a win for Jacks over Bears puts all that to rest.

Bears fall short in stats comparison vs SFA in almost all categories and even though SFA is only 5-6 on road, they have to be favored to win at UCA. Jacks only give up 60 per game, shoot good FTs, pretty good with TOs and rebound well vs opponents.

However, Bears are better than record indicates and except for a couple notable losses they have fought well in every game and had numerous near misses. It would be nice to see Mitch and Quad head out of FC for last time with a nice win.

Go Bears!!

SFA's last three games:
2/27: W at home vs TAMCC, 64-43
2/24: W at Texas State, 77-70
2/20: L at SELA by 66-56

last SFA v UCA game:
1/13: W at home, 64-49

Top Players in SLC stats:

Tadre Sheppard....7 rebs, 56% FGs, 2Bs

I don't know what happened, but UCA was trailing SFA 49-50 with 4 secs left, and our senior Mitch got called for a technical....

Hats to our guys for fighting to the bitter end. Few thought this would be close. They are one step away from being a pretty good SLC team. Now get really mad and go to Lake Charles and take a win to end the season.

Another heart breaking loss. :(. I am so upset. The guys played a tough game against a good team. If you think about it, they played well enough to win against the top two teams in our conference (Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin). Those games were definitely winnable. 52 is right. They are not not that far away from being a really good team. They beat McNeese last year to end the season, let's do it again!

No doubt a good effort by the boys last night. Undoubtably the "Michigan" timeout must have been costly. My verdict is still out of the progress of the men's team. Some people say we are one player or one step away from being competitive but seeing as to how we are losing our top two scorers who combine for 25 points out of the 63 we average, we are now 3 steps away from being where some think we should be. Hopefully our recruiting will be better than average after the season or we just might see more of the same for the next couple of years. I think many fans have become complacent wih the men's team and rightfully so. The same thing basically happened with the Sugar Bears but a new coach with a new philosophy has pretty much taken care of that problem so far. Friendships don't win championships.

Losing Mitch will be tough to overcome but Sheppard and Rehmel have certainly improved and are capable of more. Guys like Clayborn and Poelnitz have shown talent but are inconsistent. Every year players have to improve and step up. I have never been complacent but first and foremost to me is that I do what I can to support the teams as along as they are putting out the effort in practice and in games. I will leave coaching matters to Brad as he knows far more about this than me. I would love to see two basketball teams at UCA winning 20+ games every year and getting to the SLC tourney finals.

We'll have to put an * by Pouncy's name. He played in only six games but was averaging just a little over 12 per game before he went down. Sheppard is averaging just under 12 for the season.

Assuming Mike comes back for a final year ( is he not a senior?) and stays healthy that would be a BIG plus......we actually could have a pretty experienced team next year and with 2-3 productive new players could show some notable progress.

Yes, Mike is a senior but because of his injuries, he does have a medical redshirt for next year. Speaking of Mike, congrats to him for being selected as part of the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. The Forum will be held May 11-14 in Indianapolis. =D> =D>

Glad you mentioned Mike's selection by NCAA ... I feel sure he will represent UCA well...
