Williamson out to rebuild Central Arkansas
Quote:
Rare is the successful NBA player who decides to venture into coaching. Even rarer is one who decides to work his way up from the lower levels of college ball.

But a chance to mold Little Nasty’s basketball skills now has Big Nasty among the ranks of Southland Conference coaches.

Corliss Williamson, renowned as “Big Nasty” when he helped Arkansas to a national title in 1994, has gone from coaching his son’s AAU team to being named the head coach at Central Arkansas this past March. In retrospect, the AAU job might have more appeal considering UCA’s persistent basement status since the Bears joined the Southland four seasons ago.

“I actually caught the coaching bug coaching my son’s AAU team in third grade,” Williamson said on the league’s Wednesday conference call. “It was an opportunity to see a different side of the ball. I started looking at the game from a different perspective. I enjoyed being a mentor to younger players, and I played for some great coaches and enjoyed picking their brains.”

UCA coach Williamson not bothered by predictions Bears to finish 6th out of 6

Hmmm, playing full court against Hendrix. It's getting better already.

Nice win tonight. You could see that those kids wanted to play. They didn't take ANY plays with a ho-hum manner. Coach should be proud. #44...he's a hoss. Del Santos or something like that. I'll give it to Hendrix though...when they were down 35, they didn't quit. =D>

Nice job tonight. 3 players in double digits - Imad Qahwash, Carlos Dos Santos and Chris Henson.

Well done to Imad, who led all scorers with 19 and to Carlos for his double-double (17-10). =D>

Real good win by our guys tonight. Imad, Carlos, and Chris really played well. Hendrix have some really good players. I have to give them credit. I was very impressed with the tempo. Much better than it has been. Should be instore for real good year.

Corliss may just make a player our of Carlos. Imad knows what Coach Williamson wants out of his players, many of the others are still trying to resist. It will be an interesting (but perhaps frustrating) season.

Heard some on radio. Obviously they are learning but a big win in a game you should win...that's a good start. UMKC always gives us fits so Tuesday should be a real test.

We have players talented enough to do some good...last year we won 12 and could have won 16-17 with a little better play. There will be some rough play but if the guys work hard and listen to CW, they could be a surprise.

Glad Imad had solid game...he is a worker. Carlos shows signs of really good play at times.....Henson is one of the guys who could really be good with work....

Didn't they win only 9 games last year?

Williamson’s UCA debut a successful one

Quote:
Two new college coaches debuted their programs at the Farris Center on Saturday night.

One came away very pleased with how his players have adapted to a new regime. The other, not so much.

The UCA Bears, under former Razorback and NBA star Corliss Williamson, had career-high performances from three players on the way to an 87-46 victory over an outmanned Hendrix squad of NCAA Division III. The game represented another special part of the crosstown rivalry before 2030 fans.

"Imad knows what Coach Williamson wants out of players" .....yeah I don't think so. Padding stats and playing selfishly maybe.

Pretty sure he made every shot he attempted. I would want him to play more selfishly if he was that much on fire.

He's the leading scorer on the team. He's shooting a ridiculous 62% from the field. FIVE PLAYERS have attempted more shots than he has. He's been the best free throw shooter on the team. And he's near the top in rebounds while listed at 6-2. All that and he hasn't even started a single game.

I don't know what prompted you to join and post something like that, but clearly it's something outside of basketball played on the court. Good try though.

I think it's pretty clear here that Imad has made a sexytime with this man's (ex?)girlfriend.
