Fans of the UCA men's team probably aren't feeling this after the Philander loss, but this is still something to consider once that team gets better and it's definitely something the Sugar Bears would thrive in:

A fantastic idea! Something I've been wanting to see for a while now. I would definitely attend. It would be a great opportunity to not only see UCA play in-state competition, but I know I wouldn't mind getting the opportunity to watch a matchup between any of the other teams involved. Would be an entertaining day or two of Arkansas basketball. While it would be tough to schedule, it would really be great if both the men's and women's teams would be able to participate.

Good to hear, DaBears. Your sentiments are exactly the reason I wrote the blog post in the first place. I too think it's also a good idea, and wanted to conduct an informal public opinion poll on it. So please vote by going to the poll at the blog post above, and spread the word a little.

UCA-ASU; UALR-UAPB one night
UCA-UALR; ASU-UAPB the next night

Both ASU and UALR stay away from one another so no conflict there. I kind of like the tournament idea too, but with UALR and ASU playing every year twice in the regular season, and then a possible SB Tournament meeting, they are already playing for a title. I love this idea (carry it over to the woman's side too?). Maybe the parties that be can make this thing work at some point.

Why does a poll regarding ASU_UALR_UAPB and UCA have so many options that
don't really matter? Especially the last option. I know for a fact that true ASU
and UCA fans don't care how the piggies are playing.

I tried to put this together a few years ago and hope it could be done now.

I contacted the folks at alltel (now Verizon).

Then got some help with the money from a likely place. (one of the posters that could make that kind of money happen)

Contacted all the schools ad's or coaching staffs.

Got some interesting calls at my house about why this was not going to happen.

Here is what you are up against:

StAte is not willing to give a home date up to play in little rock.

Ualr has had a lot of success scheduling mid major's to hme and home that have more upside then two games against uca and uapb

Uapb needs the money from the body bag games that pay +50k a game.

The tournament will need to pay 50k a team for the weekend, if Verizon area were to give this a weekend date for them getting the gate and food sales, you have to have someone put up 200k to make it happen.

You may get it done cheaper then that. Uca and ualr, might be willing to play for no or less money but stATe and uapb are going to want their money unless you play in pinebluff or Jonesboro. Which makes no sense because it would hurt the gate.

It could rotate every year but having it in lr makes more sense from a media stnd point.

Hot spring could be a good site. Give the belts schools a chane to play at the conference tournament site.

If you add the women's and play in hot springs they have two courts. Put the women on the second court.
