At the half:

Bears 30
SELA 23

Bears shooting 52% FGs (67% for 2s) and 100% FTs (6/6)....

Miles has 12 on 6/7 FGs....otherwise balanced scoring.....10 TOs is not a good sign although SELA has 11...led by 12 late in half and let SELA close a little..

Good first half....

FINAL

UCA 30-41=71
SELA 23-52=75

Unfortunate loss...got off to an unsual fast start and led by 16 in 1st, including by 12 just before half...SELA gradually clawed back into game to take a late lead, then int OT....played hard in OT but just could not get the ball for the lead when they had to....

Miles had a great night at 26/9 to lead Bears
Borden added 10/1
Rutledge had 9/6

FGs: 51% ecah
3s: 17% v 29% ( 6 pt difference)
FTs: 55% v 64% (SELA tallied 21/33 vs UCA's 11/20)
Rebs: UCA 33 v 31
TOs: 20 v21

Both poor 3s and FTs was the difference.....missed a golden chance for road win and getting to 3-3 in SLC....much better play from start of year....need to make another step or two over the next two weeks...still winless in Hammond

Bears now 7-11/2-4

Coach: went stagnant on offense starting late in 2nd half...not good 2nd half defense...let them stick around...did not take care of ball in 2nd half...just never got going in 2nd half...got nervous when SELA tied game late and then we did not know what it is like to be able to lead late on the road...kept fighting in OT....

Next is SUN at McNeese at 3pm

Season stats so far...FG% 43, 3pt% 33, FT% 54.
It's hard to win with those numbers.
Need to be 48-52, 37-38, 64-68.

It's all the free throws. We could have won it in regulation at the line, but Miles missed two.

I blame the loss on Monty. I think when we hit the first 5 he pointed it out: "Fans, the Bears are a perfect 5-for-5 on free throws." According to JRK's notes we even made the next one. Then we went 3-for-10 in the second half.

We got down 5 in overtime and then tied it up... only to have SELA drain a 3 on the next possession. It was the only shot the guy made all day.

Another winnable game that resulted in a loss. Miles obviously shot it extremely well from the floor. And Borden has been playing well the last couple games. But we could be .500 or even better right now!

the Bears are fifth in the Southland in field goal percentage. there are only 30 teams out of 330 or so that shoot in the "48-52 range" so that category is fine. they are sixth in three point shooting, so that's not bad, either. you are correct, the free throw percentage is BAD.
