Jan 10 - L at McNeese State, 71-75
Jan 12 - W at Lamar, 62-56
Jan 17 - L vs. Oral Roberts, 52-64

This is a game that is winnable. The way our season has gone, look for some Islander to have a career day.

SLC stats only....

Bears score 71 and give up 79.....TAMCC scores 59 and allows 64.....

UCA vs TAMCC

FGs: 45% v 38%
FG defense: 45% v 45%
FTs: 64% v 77%...both teams have made 67....
3s: 33% v 29%
3s defense: 42% v 29%....not good comp...
Rebs: 36 v 29
Reb margin: <3> v <7>
TOs: 15 v 11
TO margin: <3> v +3
Blocked shots: 4 v 1
Assists: 13 v 10
Steals: 5 v 7

Will Nelson #SLC scorer at 18 (and #3 rebs at 10)....Jonathan Jordan is #11SLC at 14 (and #2SLC assists at 6 and #5 FTs at 82%)...

Note that UCA's Berete leads SLC in FTs at 92%...we need to find a way to get him to the FT line a lot more....

Fundamentals wins this game like most....shoot decently, win rebs and keep TOs down....slow down Nelson.....

Bears can get first SLC win of the year....

With another terrible start to the conf. Schedule is it time to
Push the panic button? 0-5 I know this team is supposedly better
Than the past few, but sooner or later that, I would think would need
To translate into W's . Or are the Bears still that far behind the league?
I admit that my knowledge of BB is somewhat limited and am for sure not
A coach or an evaluator of talent at any level. It just puzzles me a little at
the inability of this team to have any consistency. They seem to play well
In spurts and then self - destruct at the end.

Anybody have a good explanation? I would welcome comments from
Anyone who has watched the Bears play this season.

I hope they can find a way to get a W today. I'm sure some self doubt
Hs started to creep in.

GO BEARS.

Based on what I can glean from stats, news and broadcasts is that depth is a key issue. Crawford and Miles are really good players but defenses seem to know they can pressure Crawford and either force high risk shots or others are not stepping up to fill the void. There are other solid palyers like Garner and Harks but the other shooters like Williams seem to be very streaky. I have no idea what the nagging injury situation is and that can certainly affect consistency.

Only Crawford, Garner and Borden are seniors and all were junior college transfers. They have been very good additions on the court. We should have a good crew back next year, including five freshmen who will be sophs, but will need more shooting depth. Somene how we have to get to the line more and put the others guys there less.

We saw earlier how this team can play and, I still contend, woud have beaten MS State on the road had Miles been in the lineup. They appear a step or two better this year but not quite to the level they win these close games.

We really need a W today. I'm really tired of seeing this team fail year after year. I'm tired of excuses, I want results.

FINAL

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2013/1/19/MBB_0119132632.aspx

UCA 24-52= 76 (6-10/1-5) ...52 H2 points !!!!
TAMCC 34- 33= 67 (2-14/1-5)

Q1: TAMCC wins 22-12
Q2: Even
Q3: Bears win 23-14
Q4: Bears win 29-19

Might have been the Battle from the Bottom but a big road win for Bears. Give the game ball to Jarvis Garner for 18 H2 points (23 total) and clutch free throws. Credit Lenell Borwn for the big 3 to take the lead.

UCA v TAMCC

FGs: 41% (55% in H2) v 45%
3s: 39% (67% in H2) v 39%...8/12 in H2...terrific performance
FTs: 74% v 67% ...Bears hit 14/19...good job
Rebs: 37 v 36
TOs: 7 v 12...Bears had only 2 in H2...great work

Garner had 23...Crawford added 17....Miles with 15 and Borden with 8

Coach sounded excited and relieved...1st ever win for Bears vs TAMCC.... seemed very pleased with H2 effort and play...noted we were able to start changing tempo late in H2 and were able to carry over and turn up defensive pressure.......

Enjoy the trip home then get ready for four big home games.....

Good work by the guys today......
