Preseason Polls

No surprise here. Predicted to finish at the bottom as they should, but I feel like this team is poised to do better. It may not be reflected in the end result, but this team is already way ahead of where they have been the past several years.

Lyons 26-43 69
UCA 36-41 77

Justin Foreman had 18 for Bears.

Still have some work to do. Seemed to do fine when working ball inside but perimeter shooting was off and defense kept letting Lyons have 10-15 foot jumpers which they made pretty well. However, whenever Lyons would start closing the gap in H2 the Bears would rally.

Enjoyable game. Coach said he wouldn't press or run some of the screen plays against the Scots and he didn't. This game was more for seeing how the kids would run the plays given and who would step up as leader. Not sure that was answered but interesting game anyway.

Four Scots players fouled out and you can clearly see their coaches frustrations. We rebounded pretty well on the offensive side of the board even if they were after the whitle blew but on the defensive side the Scots were able to get in there and grab some when we had noone down low to rebound.

Fun game anyway and the Scots brought a nice crowd with them. =D>

I always have trouble watching a game like this....
To me, it is hard to gauge how good or bad a team really is.

I realize that you have to play a couple of these types of games to figure out what adjustments need to be made.

Glad for the win....time to move on....let the REAL season begin.

UCA 83 CBC 80

Had to hit the road after football but this does not look encouraging.....maybe we did not press again and CBC did hit 7/8 3s in H2 ........ I hope we are holding a lot back.............

We will get a better picture of this team in the opener next Sat at Tulsa.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud...but if UCA can't handle CBC who I think
has 0 scholarships something is terribly wrong. It maybe time to just shut
down the BB program. Should win this game by 40 on a bad night...

This program has been TOTALLY neglected since the move to Division I. We FINALLY have a coach that knows how to build a program. This program was BELOW rock bottom. This is not going to happen overnight. I watched the first half of the game with CBC. They are not a bad looking NAIA team. Honestly, I was a little surprised we escaped with the win in this exhibition game. If I have said this once, I have said it 100 times, it is going to take ALOT of time to get this program back up to where it needs to be. I'm with this staff and players till the bitter end. You can either be with us, or against us.

Plus take into account that CBC was 0-10 (or something like that) from 3 in the first half, but came out and was like 7-8 from 3 in the 2nd. I'm sure they probably made some adjustments at the half that back fired.

We have players who appear to have good talent and athletic ability..........Coach still has work to get them on the same page for the full 40 minutes............ as we all know from our days in NAIA, there can be some very good basketball played.......it gets much tougher on Sat.......... then again, maybe playing for real can jump start them............

Sorry, but if you think that a NAIA team should be able to compete with a
D1 program then your expectations are way too low.

Everyone's expectations for the program have been more than high...in fact, they have been more than unrealistic for years.

Foot, I don't think you understand how far this program has fallen. One has to go back even before Rand Chappell to when the downfall started and basically nothing was done. Why ? I don't know.

Part of the reason things were in a mess was because of the type of people we were recruiting. Hell, most of them could not walk and chew gum at the same time. Most could not find their way to a classroom and that even compounded the problem even more.

When Pennell came in, he got rid of all of the players except for one. That one was an average player at best, but he had good grades. With some work, the youngster improved last year and is being redshirted this year. The players that they have brought in are good players that are basically learning how to play together. IT TAKES TIME!!!!!! In all honesty, it may take three to five years to get the program up to where it needs to be. God, I hope it doesn't take that long. For the first time since Don Dyer, things are being done right in the Farris Center. These coaches and these players are working their butts off. I really think we will see some improvement this year...how much, I just don't know.

There are some of us on this board that goes to most all of the home games. Some of us even made some road games last year. Despite that 2-27 record last year, I'm telling you things are different...things are better and improvement is on the way.

Dang, I havn't preached that long in 25 years....I yield the floor.

Beau......you and I may have different views of thinking about football playoffs but I am with you on the below.....basketball of all sports is really affected by playing well together and that takes time. You only have five on the court and just one player not with the program makes it almost impossible to win. I do not get to many games in person but I listen to almost all on internet radio and even when we had a very good player on the court he was often on his own it seemed.

Coach has to get his guys on the court and spend many hours working to develop a team. I have confidence he is the coach to get it done.
