Believe me, I know how far the program has fallen...I haven't attended a lot
of games but have seen enough over the years to realize the team was in
shambles. I watched what I considered a bunch of thugs play at UALR one
night at Verizon Arena. I am not oblivious to the fact that this program had
hit not rock bottom, but under the rock.

my point simply, was that expectations have to be more for this program
than to be as good as the NAIA school a few blocks away. UCA is DIVISION 1
for crying out loud and we as alumni and fans should not and can not accept
anything less than a competitive program moving forward. Last year was a
given...totally new team from the Head coach to the ball boy. But there needs
to be marked improvement this year in wins and being competitive. Can't get
beat by 40 anymore by teams in the conference.

Shambles ? Thugs ? Foot, now you are being too kind.

I think the expectations are more for this years after last season. Honestly, if we we win 10 to 12 games with the schedule we have this year, it will be a pleasant surprise. Again, it is going to take time and good recruiting to get this program where it needs to be.

Don't be surprised by the teams from Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State...with what they have returning, they could beat us by 40.

Foot's comments MIGHT be just a LITTLE hard (emphasis on might and little). I think all young people tend to go where they are led. I am not certain the two previous coaching staffs put any emphasis on being a real student athlete. I know they wanted to win but they did not work hard enough at recruiting and there was obviously no attention given to any emphasis on obligations in the classroom. Russ has assembled a group of young men that we can be proud of and they have turned it around in the academic area. Wins and losses will be a little more difficult than an average GPA above 3.00 I am afraid but we will see. No excuses but Men's Basketball in Division I is the most difficult sport to build.

Maybe I just don't understand what's going on. I Know UCA has quality
student/athletes in the men's BB program now. I know the coaching staff
is top notch. I know the kids are going to class now and making good grades.
I just still think that UCA should be able to put together a much better team
than CBC. If that is too much to wish for then I guess I'll just be happy with
whatever happens. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

You certainly did not offend me and you simply want competitive fervor as we work towards excellence in all facets of the University. I think pre-season scrimmages can be misleading. The visiting lower Division opponent views it as an opportunity to prove they are worthy and the higher Division team is playing everyone and still trying to decide upon minutes, who, what, where. I am going to CBC/UALR this afternoon, that will be a good comparison. Monmouth beat UCLA last night, UALR beat UAFS by just 8, Harding beat UALR a few years ago. I will be more worried if we get beat badly at Tulsa today. Foot, u r the best because u care so much!! I have never known u to be offensive to anyone!!

UCA/TU

FG%: 51% vs 59%
3pt: 11-23-48% vs 10-21-48%
FTs: 12-17-70% vs 12-17-70%
Rebs: 10-22 vs 10-20
TOs: 18 vs 11
POP: 18 vs 54
2ndChance: 11 vs 13
POT: 14 vs 28

Offensive stats look pretty good..... even had 10 o-rebs.......the 18 TOs needs clean up.........TU was +14 on points off TO which was really the difference.....

Derreck Brooks was on fire with 25 total and 5-9 from 3........Jordan Howard added 16 and Justin Foreman with 14.....8 players scored.......

Despite the loss, still a good showing....plenty to work on. On to UMASS, Rutgers and the others down the road. :D

Tulsa seems poised to have a pretty good year with their senior laden team! Our Bears hung close with them for a while!
