We have players who appear to have good talent and athletic ability..........Coach still has work to get them on the same page for the full 40 minutes............ as we all know from our days in NAIA, there can be some very good basketball played.......it gets much tougher on Sat.......... then again, maybe playing for real can jump start them............
Sorry, but if you think that a NAIA team should be able to compete with a
D1 program then your expectations are way too low.
Everyone's expectations for the program have been more than high...in fact, they have been more than unrealistic for years.
Foot, I don't think you understand how far this program has fallen. One has to go back even before Rand Chappell to when the downfall started and basically nothing was done. Why ? I don't know.
Part of the reason things were in a mess was because of the type of people we were recruiting. Hell, most of them could not walk and chew gum at the same time. Most could not find their way to a classroom and that even compounded the problem even more.
When Pennell came in, he got rid of all of the players except for one. That one was an average player at best, but he had good grades. With some work, the youngster improved last year and is being redshirted this year. The players that they have brought in are good players that are basically learning how to play together. IT TAKES TIME!!!!!! In all honesty, it may take three to five years to get the program up to where it needs to be. God, I hope it doesn't take that long. For the first time since Don Dyer, things are being done right in the Farris Center. These coaches and these players are working their butts off. I really think we will see some improvement this year...how much, I just don't know.
There are some of us on this board that goes to most all of the home games. Some of us even made some road games last year. Despite that 2-27 record last year, I'm telling you things are different...things are better and improvement is on the way.
Dang, I havn't preached that long in 25 years....I yield the floor.
