Here's what I know about Joey Cortez:
1) He's already transferred from his original school because of differences with the coaching staff and academics, causing his scholarship to be revoked. He has said that the offense didn't fit his style of creating off the bounce. He spent two years at Eastern Illinois, one as a redshirt and only got in 13 games his 2nd year. At Lake Land he's gotten his grades in order!

2) His senior year in HS he got a DUI--- yes, we all make mistakes, I'm just making a list here.

3) In his final game at Lake Land, Cortez had a superb stat line. 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals on 8-of-12 shooting. He help LL to 15-9 record last season. His 11.25 assists per game (270 total) led the NJCAA. He was also 12th in the country with 3.417 steals per game.

4) He's a 6'4", 180-lb. point guard who, at one time after this past season, also was reportedly being looked at by Loyola, South Dakota State and Lewis University.

Based on what I've seen, it looks like he's a very good/smart point guard if you're looking for someone who can get the ball to his players. 11.25 assists is smokin'. If Coach Chappell is looking for a scoring PG, he may not be able to fill that role, but that's generally not their role anyway. I think he also has good size. As long as he's moved on from his academic problems and other problem mentioned above, I say sign him up.

Hope that was long enough for you.[/list]

Sounds like a solid player.

From what I read in your post, I assume he has two years of eligability remaining, is that correct ?

as long as he got his act together I don't have a problem.

Although not always the most functional of units, Rand has a good track record of creating and coaching good teams on the court. I trust his talent judgement until he proves otherwise.

if you're talking about the two that i'm thinking about, only one of them was booted, the other left on his own

Michael Monroe (booted) and Jarman Sample (left on his own).

It's not a secret.

First off, I love how you said "fixing to be!"

Second, I think you're probably talking about Kyle Wray. He was an All-State selection by the AAA. His stat line in last month's all-star game was 3-for-6 shooting, 6 pts, 3 rbs, 1asist, 2 turnovers, 1 steal.
(Remember Mitch was smoking - and on the same team.)
Wray is 6'4" and played forward in HS. That's pretty small to play that position in college...

6-4 is small for a forward, but if he was a 3, he can probably play the 2...

Reliford is 6-4 and he played the 4. Darryl Jones was the starting 3 most of last season and is about 6-4 also.

It'd be nice to have a guy 6-7, 6-8 at the 3, but D2 schools in Arkansas don't often find themselves that lucky...
