I do believe with that win that UCA has won the Governors I40 challenge. 22.5 points is enough if I have the total correct.

Trophys are all fine and good, but the thing with this win, IMHO, is slowly, but surely this program is learning how to win again. It takes time and in this case, alot of time, but well worth the wait.

Next three non-conference games will be more than tough, but as long as progress is continuing to be made, that is good.

HUGE congratulations on that win last night Bears.

I have some research to do over the holidays but it looks to me like Bears have the toughest non-conference schedule in the SLC.........records may be deceiving right now........even then we let Troy get away ........hoping we play hard these next three then be ready for SLC play............Go Bears!!!

@OkState

UCA 33-40=73
OSU 43-39=82

https://ucasports.com/news/2018/12/21/mens-basketball-bears-battle-cowboys-before-falling-82-73.aspx

UCA/OSU

FGs: 44% v 41%
3s: 33% v 40%...8/24...hit just 2 more and this is a game
FTs: 65% v 81%............17/26 vs 22/27
Rebs: 28 v 43.........only 6 o-rebs......
TOs: 12 v 13...pretty solid

Bears actually +12 in PIP but Pokes +7 on fast break points.........lots of ways we could have won this one....hard to lose but being able to say we were in this one on the road at a B12 school is a BIG step up from where we were.........

Koval had a terrific game at 21/8 with 1B........80% FGs........Unuh solid 10/5 and Modesir added 10.....a couple others at 9........

Wish we had taken a couple wins with this OOC schedule but we should be battle hardened for SLC play............get Lyon College at home on 12/10 then start at TAMCC with game @SLU on 1/5...........Go Bears!!

Let's check in on SLC MBB so far in OOC phase...………only one win over P-5.....let's hope Bears very tough OOC schedule has them ready for a SLC run......SFA looks like the best so far with a solid schedule......Nicholls and Lamar maybe better than first glance...….

Bears for comparison, 4-8...….best wins are 2x over UALR...….losses to Mizzou by 13, Pitt by 26, Troy by 5 (ugh), Saint Louis by 12, Louisville by 45, New Mexico by 12, Indiana by 43 and Ok State by 9

ACU, 10-2...…..good wins over A-State (who last week beat Missouri State), Denver and SE Missouri...….. losses to Texas Tech and Pepperdine

SFA, 7-4.....good wins over Marist, Milwaukee and @ Baylor by one...….losses to Miami, San Francisco, La Tech (by 3 at SFA)and La-Monroe

UNO, 5-5....good wins over South Alabama,.....losses to UAB, UL-Lafayette (by 4), Tulsa, Northwestern by 40 and Pitt by 42

LU, 6-6 ….best wins over Prairie View, Rice and Texas Southern...…….losses to Georgia Tech, East Carolina, UTPA, SMU, Houston, CSU-Bakersfield

NSU, 6-6...….best wins over Idaho, North Carolina Central, Western Michigan....losses to Louisville by 13, Washington State, Baylor, Ole Miss, Boston U and La-Monroe

TAMCC, 5-7....best win over UT-Arlington....losses to UT-Rio Grand Valley (2x), UC-Davis, Tennessee by 28, Texas State, UTSA and La Tech by 5

IWU, 5-8.....best win over North Dakota State by 2...…….losses to Texas Tech by 50, Montana by 27, Florida Atlantic by 3, Northern Colorado by 26, SIU-Edwardsville, LSU by 41, Illinois-Chicago and DePaul by 10

NWS, 4-8.....best wins over Alabama A&M and Southern...………..losses to SMU, BYU, Rice by 28, Houston, La-Monroe by 28, UTEP by 30, Texas A&M by 21 and Texas Tech by 35

SHS, 4-8...best wins over Jackson State and Alabama State...….. losses to La Tech, Clemson by 25, Georgia by 11, East Tennessee State by 14, Central Michigan, UALR by 27, Colorado State and Utah Valley

SLU, 4-8.....best wins over Stetson and Tulane by 1.....losses to LSU by 31, Nebraska by 52, Texas Tech by 19, Mississippi Valley State, Ole Miss by 22 and California Baptist by 21 (wow)

MSU, 3-9.....best win over University of Mobile and North Central Carolina by 16...…..losses to St Mary's (CA) by 22, Arizona State by 28, Loyola (LA) by 1, SMU by 32, North Central Carolina by 1, UMKC, UL-Lafayette and UTPA

Watched some of the TAMCC at Ok State game today...…….Islanders trail 35-28 at half after leading 18-17 after first 10 minutes. Cowboys were leaving them open for 3s early and getting burned...…….TAMCC seemed to have difficulty with the press and did not show a smooth offense although finding ways to score...….pretty good defense for most of the half...…….ended up shooting <30% FGs in H1...….OSU at 50% with 63% 3s...…..even then the differential at H1 was OSU +5 FTs made...…..

Islanders fell 69-59...…….shot only 32% FGs vs 46%....an impressive 7 TOs...….basically OSU won with +6 FTs made...….should be a good opening SLC game for Bears...…..

Big first week for Bears...….Wed at TAMCC and Sat at Southeastern...…..everyone is 0-0 right now...…….

Pretty good idea what TAMCC can do with Ok State at Gallagher-Iba a week after Bears were there...…….

Southeastern is not as clear...…….a wins over Tulane (4-8) and Stetson (3-11) but losses to Miss Valley (2-12) and to California Baptist (8-5)...…..Cal B does have wins over Cal-Riverside, Miss Valley by 36 and Southern by 3...…….3 point loss to Cal-Irvine and 3 point loss to Tulsa and 8 point loss to UAPB in 3 OTs...………

Go Bears!!

@TAMCC

UCA 34-41=75 (0-1/5-9)
TAMCC 42-45=87 (1-0/6-8)

UCA/TAMCC

FGs: 42% v 45%
3s: 48% v 23% …….Bears made 15
FTs: 83% v 77%....TAMCC was +15 on made FTs
Rebs: 29 v 43
TO: 18 v 11...…….way too many to win on the road

Tied at 63 then gave up 24-12 run by Islanders...…..down 16 at one point...….Coach not very happy with effort early......did not really play until we got way down.....TAMCC won 2nd chance points by 15-0...…

Jones led with 22/5/5...…..Coach would not praise as he said the defense was not there...……..also, Jones fouled out...….Unruh had 14 but only one reb…….Koval 12/5 but with 6 TOs...….Weidenaaer had a solid 9 with 2 assists while shooting 2/3 3s and 3/3 FTs...….and no TOs...….

Not the way we wanted to start...…..makes Hammond that much more important....Go Bears!!

@SLU

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/1/5/mens-basketball-bears-pull-out-first-road-win-over-lions-73-71.aspx

UCA 30-43=73 (1-1/6-9)
SLU 20-51=71 (0-2/4-11)

UCA/SLU

FGs: 54% v 45%
3s: 46% v 28%......better shot selection at 6/13
FTs: 79% v 92%...still +3 made FTs for Bears
Rebs: 25 v 31
TOs: 17 v 20....still way too many but at least + to SLU

Huge road win.....staying tough to win a 50-50 game at the end is a good sign........first win ever at Hammond...wow

Jones had a 18/4 game with 4 steals but also 7 TOs.....shot nearly 60% FGs.....Unruh 12/4....8 others scored.....team shot 64% FGs in H2......took every bit of that....

Now back home for Sam on Wed and Lamar on Sat .....Go Bears!!
