Sam Houston @ Farris Center

SHS 38-40=78
UCA 23-46=69 (1-2/6-10)

SHS/UCA

FGs: 46% v 36%
3s: 36% v 31%
FTs: 75% 81%...…...Bears +6 made
Rebs: 32 v 41
TOs: 10 v 18...…….Kats +9 POTO...ie, The Game

Very strange H2...…. Kats get out to +18 then Bears cut it to 7 in next 4 minutes then Kats eases back to +20 as Bears seem to hibernate...…..then Bears make a final mad hatter finish to close to 5...…then traded points on a few trips.....then the FT game to close out...….ended with 19-8 run...…….Kats ended with 6 in double figures...…..Unruh led Bears with 27/4 night including 6/9 3s...….Jones added 12 but with 6 TOs....just could not get the final shot they needed ….never gave up but inconsistent....really need to take care of Lamar on Saturday...

Coach: Some impatience against a good defensive team....not happy with our post players...have to play tougher inside...….need that to set the offense up.....not yet grasping the fine lines of how to win...……….first do not beat yourself....
*********
Got as close as 4 late in H1.....then a 13-1 run by Kats...….poor shooting continues ….only 1/11 from 3s......Kats only shooting 25% 3s but are +3 made.....Bears 5/14 from 2pt FG about 35% but Kats are 10/16 for 60%+…...Bears +4 rebs…….but have 7 more TOs and Kats are +10 POTO...…..

*****
Tough start as Kats go 6/6 from 2pt FGs while Bears only 2/9......Sam +6 on POTO already.....down by 10 at the under 8 time out...….

UNO@ Farris Center

UNO 34-37=71 (4-3/9-9)
UCA 38-38=76 (5-2/10-10)

UNO/UCA

FGs: 37% v 47%
3s: 43% v 36%....each team made 9
FTs: 67% v 73%...Bears +11 on made FTs
Rebs: 41 v 40
TOs: 10 v 19

Just could not put it away late and had to hit FTs....Koval 22/5/7Bs...….Unruh 15/9.....Jones added 13 and Kayuoloud had 10......kudos to UNO's Bryson Robinson who has 28 on 9/15 3s and FTs.....Bears held UNO's leading scorer to 1...….nice DoubleBears night as both teams won...Go Bears!!

Bears up 61-51 at 10 to go...…..Koval 17/4 with 6Bs.....Unruh has 4 fouls and Jones 3.....tough quarter but playing better defense vs 3...….

UNO fights back with 3s and closes to tie then Bears score last 4 in H1...…..11 combined 3s...….Bears cooled off a bit from long range and Privateers heated up.....stats pretty even....each team has 14 made FGs with Bears +1 3s and +3 FTs...….only 12 combined fouls...….. H1 took less than 40 minutes to play...….Koval and Unruh each have 12 points...….Robinson for UNO has 5 all on 3s...…..get a hand in his face in H2.....

Bears get off to fast start then it turns into 3 point contest....ends first 10 minutes leading 23-16....7 made 3s combined ..….need to defend o-rebs better...….

Been a while since we have seen this...………

SHS 6-0
UCA/ACU 5-2
TAMCC 4-2
UNO 4-3
SFA/SLU 3-3

This team has me thinking back to some of the better squads in my era that featured players such as Joe Graham, Joe Couch, TJ Johnson, Conny Johnson, James Dickey, Big John Hutchcraft, Joel Tabor, Rush Harding...….good mix of inside and outside.....….if only we had 3s then...……..it was hard to win AIC titles as there were good teams with great coaches....saw lots of great basketball at the old gym and new Farris versus the likes of Ouachita, Henderson, Southern State, Russellville Tech, A&M, Harding, Hendrix, Batesville College..........miss those days....

Today's Bears have certainly made good strides but still have a ways to go.......they keep improving over the rest of the sasaon and we (and they) will like the way it comes out...........wish I could get to more games and see our current den play.........Go Bears!!

Those were some GREAT players....loved coming to Conway on Monday or Thursday night watching those guys mentioned above. Coach Dyer put together some good teams in the late 80's and early 90's. Those were really good teams that made all of those trips to Kansas City.

It is so dang hard to compete at this level when you throw in the money games that programs have to deal with. I REALLY like this team. They play HARD, but like you mentioned they have trouble holding a lead. Lots of ball left to be played between now and early March.

If we can continue to improve, we could make some noise in Katy at the tournament. Will be fun to see what happens. Hope to see you at the remaining home games. =D> =D>

Was out of state in 80s and might as well had been in the 90s with media in those days....maybe the best thing about internet is I can keep up with the Bears and SugarBears from anywhere....I would have missed the Scottie Pippen era entirely had my Mother not sent me an article every once in while....nonetheless, like you I like this team a lot...…….they seem like nice young men who like playing basketball...….hope I can get to Farris Center...….probably will be sitting in the east side chairs along the sidelines...…..Go Bears and SugarBears…….

UCA@ACU

UCA 29-27=56 (5-3)
ACU 39-40=79

Pretty short stats line...…….shot 30% FGs and gave up 47%...had 20 TOs and ACU was +15 POTO...…..not a formula for winning.....Jones and Koval each had 13 to lead Bears....

Big road game next Wed vs SFA then home for three..............need to regroup and start another win streak..............Go Bears!!

UCA@SFA

UCA 46-41=87-12=99 (5-4)
SFA 47-40=87-18=105 (4-3)

UCA/SFA

FG%:44% v 51%
3s%: 42% v 44%
FTs%: 66% v 73%...….Bears missed 12
Rebs: 36 v 47
TOs: 10 v 14

OT: Should have won this one.....at end of regulation but also the missed FTs ……..should have not been an issue at end of game......DJ had a career game with 29/5/8A/6S......Koval still had 11/5 while playing most of game with foul problems.....Mondie and Unruh each had 16.....Coach......played well against a team with good players...…missed FTs and a couple plays was the difference....

EOH2 - had the inbounds play we needed with 2 seconds but neither Koval nor Kayouloud could get the shot down...…...

H2/10:00 - tied at 65...no livestats…..needs much better defense the rest of the way...giving up too many easy baskets after we score...Koval slowed with 3 fouls since about 18:30 mark...

EOH1 - Jacks finished half on a 9-3 run for a 47-46 lead...…...Koval only played about 7-8 minutes...…..stats pretty even.....both teams shooting 45%+…. SFA is +8 PIP with Koval on bench.....DJ has 13 and Mondie 11...…..

H1/10:00 -Up and down the court game with Bears up 25-23.....Koval 2 fouls and on bench and Mondesir has 8 points

NWS@UCA

NWS 51-39=80
UCA 27-48=75 (5-5)

NWS/UCA

FGs: 56% v 46%
3s: 47% v 30%
FTs: 55% v 66%
Rebs: 31 v 30
TOs: 18 v 15

We might not play well at times but they neve gave up.....few teams can make up a 24 point H1 deficit...….Bears missed 10 FTs...…….shot 54% 2-point FG....but then put up 20 3s shots...….gave up way too may easy baskets in H1 by not getting back down the court to defend...….unless Demons had Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin, Maurice Greene and Carl Lewis on the court this was just poor execution on our part......lost a very winnable game...….Unruh had 33 points in 33 minutes and shot 65%....Koval had a 14/10 double double

H2/10:00 - closed to 9 at 66-57...……...Unruh leading charge with 23 points....

H1: Demons 68% FGs and 55% 3s......closest Bears have for highlight was 50% 2 point FGs...….have to lay a lot better defense...…….
