MCCOLLUM'S COLUMN: Plenty of spunk in UCA volleyball
To pull off a major victory Tuesday, the University of Central Arkansas volleyball team had to be as energetic and scrambling as Cooper, the two-year-old son of Athletic Director Brad Teague.
While trying to watch the matchup between UCA and Arkansas-Little Rock, Teague often had to give chase to Cooper, who was scooting about the arena and was almost in the Sugar Bear huddle a couple of occasions.
There was one key juncture in the fourth game in which the team exchanged digs, dives, shots and volleys at least 10 times. During the volleying, at least six UCA players were diving, lunging and sliding across the floor on various spurts. The Sugar Bears doggedly won the point after a diving rescue from out of bounds. When they wiped the floor after the scurrying, officials and players had to use a couple of towels and cover a lot of space. The moisture reflected the heat of competition...
