Central Arkansas on Record Setting Pace
FRISCO, Texas - From September 4 to the present, Central Arkansas has been nearly perfect winning its last 12 matches, its longest win streak since 13 consecutive match wins in 1986.
Of those 12 matches, 10 have been sweeps giving UCA 11 on the year, three shy of the team record of 14 set in 2007 and again in 2008.
The Sugar Bears currently have a 36-2 sets win-loss total through their last 12 matches, the most set wins of any league team during that span.
Central Arkansas leads the Southland in three league categories and ranks no less than fourth in all. As a team, the Sugar Bears are hitting .264 with 14.45 kills and 13.29 assists per set. Their .153 opponent hitting percentage and 1.71 service aces per set ranks second and 15.22 digs per set rank third and 1.96 blocks rank fourth.
Individually, UCA is the only league team with three players in the top 10 in hitting percentage as the Sugar Bears hold three of the top four spots in hitting percentage. Senior Evaree Franklin is second (.323), freshman Taylor Hammonds is third (.322) and junior Chloe Smith is fourth (.309).
Smith leads the league and if eligible for NCAA rankings would be second in the nation with 4.95 kills per set.
Senior Robyn Smith, who has led the Southland in assists in each of the last two seasons, is the current league leader with 11.70 per set and is second with 503 on the year.
If eligible, Robyn Smith would currently be tied for 10th in the NCAA in assists per set.
Sophomore Cristin Curl, the current defensive player of the week, leads the conference with 4.63 digs per set and is tied for second overall with 227 overall.
Chloe Smith Reaches 1,000 Career Kills
n Central Arkansas' seventh consecutive shutout and 11th of the season, junior Chloe Smith led all players with 15 kills, making her the fourth player in team history to reach 1,000 career kills. Smith now has 1,027 as she joins teammate senior Amicha Williams, who passed the 1k mark earlier this year.
