SUGAR BEARS LOOK TO REPEAT SUCCESS IN 2009

Quote:
CONWAY, Ark - The 2009 University of Central Arkansas volleyball team will not surprise anyone this season. The Sugar Bears, coming off a record season for winning percentage for a second consecutive year and their first Southland Conference East Division title, were picked to win the division title in both the coaches and sports information directors polls. The coaches had UCA tabbed second in the overall poll and the SIDs picked them third.

The Sugar Bears (9-2) extended their winning streak to eight by downing the Lady Lions (0-12) 25-6, 25-9, 25-13.
The win moved fifth-year head coach Steven McRoberts total at UCA to 100. He is the second Sugar Bear coach to accomplish this feat. UCA Sports Hall of Fame inductee Sallie Dalton won 259 matches from 1978 to 1992.

Congrats Sugar Bears and Congrats Coach McRoberts!

McCollum's Column: Sugar Bears build momentum in volleyball transition
Posted: September 14, 2009 - 10:33pm
By David McCollum

University of Central Arkansas volleyball coach Steven McRoberts admits to being anxious about the Sugar Bears’ season-opener against Rice a couple of weeks ago.

Rice, an NCAA playoff team last year, was ranked 31st in the country and would be the highest-ranked NCAA team a Sugar Bear team had ever played in volleyball.

The Sugar Bears lost 3-1 but were very competitive in the match...

If we're limited on bandsizes, or whatever you call it, I say swap out men's roundball for volleyball. Has any one suggested swapping playing venues for those two sports yet?
