Chloe Smith Named Academic All-America by ESPN The Magazine

FRISCO, Texas - Central Arkansas junior Chloe Smith was named the Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Thursday in conjunction with the release of the All-Academic Volleyball Teams.

Smith, a native of San Diego, Calif., is the first player in Southland history named both league player of the year and student-athlete of the year in two consecutive seasons.

A Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American, Smith maintains a 3.93 grade-point average in digital filmmaking. Smith led Central Arkansas to its first perfect season in conference play (16-0) and ranked 17th in the NCAA setting a school record with 4.46 kills per set. She holds Central Arkansas' career record with 3.86 kills per set and is second in career kills with 1,256. Smith ranked third in the league in kills (442), ninth in hitting percentage (.280) and received four player of the week awards during the 2009 season...

For all sports, where does Chloe rank among the all-time great student-athletes at UCA? Top 25? 20? 10? 5? 1?

Oooo, good question.
These two immediately come to mind: Cangelosi and Trusty.
I'm sure there are plenty of others, but I'm not sure any were as nationally recognized as Chloe has been - as a junior.

I have to Chloe is right up near the top. She has achieved a lot and to think she only has one more year. By far and way, she is the volleyball player in the history of the school.

Great accomplishments by Chloe....

Fred Jackson ws an All-American sprinter for Bears in late 60s (his times would still compete today at D1 nationals) and was probably a 4.0 GPA....if not, then close...not much recognition in those days for the academic side of things.....he went on to a Phd and long career as a big university dean.....
