Way to go, Sugar Bear Volleyball!! Winning at Arlington is not easy, but it feels good to go in there and win. Now they have a 2.5 game lead in the division. By the way with this win, they are tied with Hawaii for the longest winning streak in conference play in the country. Streak is now at 29.

Sam Houston State Sweeps Southland Volleyball Player of the Week Awards

Quote:
FRISCO, Texas - Sam Houston State juniors Carli Kolbe and Kim Black were named offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, by vote of the Southland Conference sports information directors Monday. The Bearkat duo are the first team sweep of the weekly awards this season marking the fourth by Sam Houston in the last two seasons, the most among league teams.
Offensive Player of the Week - Carli Kolbe, Sam Houston State
Kolbe, a native of College Station, Texas, averaged 4.56 kills per set leading the Kats to wins over conference rivals Stephen F. Austin and Nicholls. Kolbe knocked down 26 kills against the Ladyjacks, tying the Southland season high for her third 20-plus kill night of her career, one short of career high. She needs just four more kills to become the 20th player in the 41-year history of Sam Houston State volleyball to reach 1,000 career kills.

Honorable Mention: Chloe Smith, Central Arkansas; Amanda Aguilera, UT Arlington; Kendra Rowland, UTSA; Amari Deardorff, Texas State.

Defensive Player of the Week - Kim Black, Sam Houston State
Black, a native of Huntsville, Texas, led the Sam Houston defensive front line with eight blocks in the win over Stephen F. Austin and nine blocks in the win over Nicholls as the Bearkats went 2-0 for the week. Black leads the Southland with 86 blocks on the year and ranks fourth in the league with 1.13 blocks per match.

Honorable Mention: Cristin Curl, Central Arkansas; Danielle Daigle, Nicholls; Madison Hanlan, Stephen F. Austin, Alicia Shaffer, UT Arlington; Kelsey Jewasko, UTSA.

It is officially a conspiracy!

The Sam Houston players had equivalent or better weeks. Both teams went 2-0. Sam played overall tougher competition. It happens. Get over it.

HUGE game tonight @Lamar! Lamar is currently 2nd in the SLC East with an 8-9 (4-2) record. If we win this game it will only put more separation between us and the rest of the SLC East!

BEAUMONT - In a match that may go a long way in determining the seeding for the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament, Lamar University will host first-place Central Arkansas on Thursday night at 7 in a key contest at McDonald Gym.

The Lady Cardinals (8-9 overall) sit at 4-2 in SLC action, trailing only UCA in the East Division standings. The Sugar Bears carry a gaudy 29-match SLC win streak into the match and are 7-0 in conference play and 17-6 on the season.

It's always good when you're gaudy right?
