A bit of a rough start with weather and old but seems like we are getting on track...now 3-4 on the season........huge four game SLC series vs ACU this weekend at Bear Field....Go Bears!!

PS...heard OSU hawking tickets on Tulsa radio for the OSU/UCA series in early April...

Good to split after losing first two......2-2/5-6 after ACU series....

11 innings

Bears had 22 baserunners and Wildcats had 16....not a pitchers game....although UCA's Tyler Navarro pitched 3 hitless, scoreless innings in relief with 3Ks.....Tyler Cleveland got the loss but went 4IP and gave up only 1 run on 3 hits with 6ks....1.0 WHIP.....pretty solid.....disturbingly Moyer gave up 8 runs on 9 hits in the start over 3.2 IP... Bears' bats hammered out 18 hits but 16 singles.....Coby Potvin went 4/6 with 2 rbis...Connor Emmet and Beau Orlando each had 3 hits.....

Get back at it tomorrow in the DH....

UCA@Lamar

Game 4:
UCA 6-7-2 (4-4/78)
LU 1-7-1 (10-4)

Nice comeback to tie the series at 2 each....Conner Williams went 4.2IP giving up 1 run on 5 hits and Tyler Cleveland (now 2-2) finished up for the win in relief with 2 hit shutout mound work....Bears scored all runs our runs on a FC and 3 singles....Drew Sturgeon went 2/4 with 2 rbis and Benny Ayala also collected two hits including a double for UCA's on extra base hit.......

Bears now on the road to Oxford on Tuesday for Ole Miss then to San Antonio for the 4 game weekend series at UIW...Go Bears!!

Game 3:
UCA 2-5-0 (3-4/6-8)
LU 7-13-1 (10-3)

Bears scored first and last but all Cards in between....Cards had for doubles and HR while Bears had no extra base knocks...UCA starter Dillon Janik roughed up for 6 ERs on 8 hits in 4IP but Navarro, Verel and Gregson pitched well in relief with shutout ball and 4 Ks....Bear batters struck out 10x....

Really need to win tomorrow to breakeven on the weekend....Go Bears!!

Game 2:
UCA 5-6-0 (3-3/6-7)
LU 2-8-1 (9-3)

Logan Gilbertson (3.2IP) and Tyler Cleveland (3.1IP) partnered for a solid game pitching with 9Ks and only 108 pitches in first game of DH....and no extra base hits....Cards scored two in first then were blanked........Bears tallied 4 in 4th on a double by Orlando, a single by Potkin, Ayala reached on a fielder's choice with an rbi, then an error, Medolia walked, a two run double by Johnson and a sac fly by Sturgeon.....Orlando and Potkin each had two hits and Orlando and Johnson had a double....

Game 1:
UCA 5-7-0 (2-3/5-7)
LU 7- 11-1 (9-2)

Bears got down 6-1 after 3rd and 7-1 after 5th...good to see them fight back but just not enough....needed a long pass to LW or TH...

Moyer had a rough start and threw 92 pitches in 5IP....gave up 7 ER on 8 hits and 3 BBs...did tally 5Ks....Shoultz finished up giving 3 hits with 3 Ks in 3IP scoreless....

Bears had only one extra base hit, got 6 walks and had 9 LOB.....no one had more than one hit....needed some more timely hitting...meanwhile Cards ripped 3 doubles, a triple and 2 HRs....pitching got to do better than that against a good team...

Lace'em up and go again Sat with a twin bill at 1pm and 4pm...big day for Bears in standings..

Another close game against an SEC team...Bears scored in top of 1st for a 1-0 lead on a lead off single by Connor Emmet and run scoring rbi by Connor Flagg helped by a throwing error. Ole Miss took the lead for good on a 2 run HR in the bottom of the first. Bears scored again to pull within 5-2 in the 6th as Beau Orlando singled and scored on a Connor Flagg single.

Bears used 7 pitchers with Ryan Johnson getting the 1 IP, 2 hit start (and loss). Tate Busey and Trent Gregson each had 3Ks in their short relief stint. Brad Verel, Cole Halpin and Gregson combined for 3 IP of one hit shutout ball. The Bears and Rebs hurlers each tallied 10Ks.

Good effort. Now to San Antonio for four important games this weekend before the trip up I40/I49 to Fayetteville next Tuesday. Go Bears!!

PS-- apparently not much social distancing in Oxford with a crowd of >6800!!

Game 4:
UCA 4-9-3 (6-6/9-11)
UIW 3-7-1 (7-5/10-8)

Nothing easy about this series split...fell behind 2-0 in the 5th then responded with 3 in 6th to lead 3-2 then tied after 7th and Bears score go ahead and winning run in 8th....lucky to win with 3 errors....solid pitching today with Moyer going 6IP with 2 runs on 5 hits and one BB while tallying 3 Ks and 93 pitches....Cleveland (3-2) wraps up in relief with 3IP allowing one run on hits....Bears scored in
6th on Emmet's sac fly, Ayala's double to right and Flagg's single to center and then the game winner in 8th on Vingochea's single to right....Ayala went 2/4 with 2 rbis and 2 runs scored...

Bears tied for 8th in SLC with SFA...at home next weekend vs SHS who is game back in the standings....another big series.....but first the trip up I40/I49 on Tuesday....just play like they did at Oxford (ranked #4) last week.....and keep pitches low in the zone....Hogs had 9 HRs in the sweep at Starkvegas this weekend...Go Bears!!

UCA 2-9-0 (5-6/8-11)
UIW 10-12-2 (7-4/10-7)

Bears led 1-0 but pitching did not hold up ...Andrew Shoultz did go 2 IP in relief of shutout no hit ball....Connor Emmet went 3/5 with 2 rbis...not much else..

Really need to get a split tomorrow.....

Game 2:
UCA 11-13-1 (5-5/8-10)
UIW 12-13-0 (6-4/9-7)

So close...Bears jumped out to 10-0 lead and loses in bottom of 7th after having taken 11-10 lead in top of 7th...walked in the tying run and set up Card's big bat for bases loaded single and GWRBI....not many pitching highlights for either team...Cards had 6 extra base hits and Bears had 4....Bears left 9 on base....Connor Emmet hit HR for Bears...

Game 1:

UCA 12-12-0 (5-4/8-9)
UIW 7-7-2 (5-4/8-7)

Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead then had to fend off Cards comeback.....Williams, Haley and Gregson shared the mound and tallied 9Ks...Haley gave up a triple in a scoreless 1 IP with a K on only 13 pitches.....Johnson went 2/5 with 4 rbis , a double and a HR.....Hicks went 2/4 with 2 rbis and a double...Emmet also went 2/5 with 2 rbis and a HR...

DH on Sat starting at 1pm.....big day tomorrow....Go Bears!!

UCA 8-9-3 (9-12)
#1 UAF 21-20-1 (20-3)

Well, the bats were not the issue.......AJ Mendolia was 4/4 with 3 rbis........Kolby Johnson was 2/5 3 rbis and a double...Emmet Connor was 1/4 with a HR....Benny Ayala was 2/4....only 6Ks and worked pitchers for 9 BBs.....

Pitching was another matter.....I have to say that I was surprised Bears gave up so many hits.....somewhat out of character.....#4 Ole Miss only had 8 although 3 HRs....everyone know UAF is a HR/power hitting lineup...at least Bears Ked 8....

Good to get this distraction put of the way given in the midst of SLC schedule....

Lots of important games coming up......4 home games this weekend vs BearKats....then A-State the next Tuesday and then 3 at Ok State the following weekend....

SLC website shows us 7-5 and in tie for 3rd with ACU and UNO but unless something weird happened, Bears have played 12 SLC games and split each of the three 4-game series....so 6-6.....this puts Bears in tie for 7th with SFA and UIW...big logjam that a sweep vs SHS would really go along way to making the season....at least win 3 would really help....

Oh wow.....get swept at home in a four game series.......that hurt in SLC standings for sure....now A-State on Tuesday and 3 at Ok State next weekend....Go Bears!!

Game 4:

UCA 4-8-0 (6-10/9-16)

Well, at least not another game with great pitching that got away....got out to a 2-0 lead but then gave up 6 in 3rd thru 5th...gave up 5 HRs.....Trent Gregson had 1IP of shutout one hit ball with 2Ks....Beau Orlando did go 3/5 with a double and rbi.....

Game 3:
SHS 3-6-0
UCA 1-5-1

Another solid pitching outing with starter Tate Busey going 6IP and Tyler Cleveland 3IP in relief....again another game with solid pitching and not enough bats...Bears struck out 11x....

Game 2:
SHS 2-6-0
UCA 0-3-1

Moyer gets 7IP complete game for the loss with 8Ks and 1BB....a shame to let a fine performance like this not get the run support....

Game 1:

Tyler Navarro goes 5IP in relief with one hit shutout ball......UCA pitchers recorded 10Ks but gave 10BB/HBPs!!!!

#OKState baseball's weekend series with Central Arkansas has been canceled because of COVID protocols at UCA.

OSU is actively pursuing new opponents for this weekend.

Dang. Would have been a good game for UCA to play in, even if we are down just a little bit.
