Two teams that UCA (27-27-1) beat during the regular season battled for the Missouri Valley tourney championship with Wichita State (44-15) prevailing over Mizzou State (40-17) by 12-10 to win their 16th MVC crown. The Purple Bears shocked the Shockers at Wichita on 5/6 by 10-9 and split a 4-game series with the Maroon Bears in Conway back in February.

Another UCA victim came up short in the SEC championship game as LSU (39-16) beat Ole Miss (34-22) in Hoover, AL by 8-2. UCA beat Ole Miss in Oxford on 3/18 by 4-3.

UCA lost a close series 0-3 to SLC champ Sam Houston in Hunstville in mid-March. {It would have been nice to have another shot at Sam later in the season after the Bears were in high gear....}

The Purple Bears played two Big 12 teams losing twice to Texas Tech (25-30) in early March and twice to Kansas State (29-29) in early April. The Red Raiders did not qualify for the Big 12 tourney while Kansas State lost to Texas in the championship game by 15-7.

The Bears travelled to Cape Girardeau the last week of the season and split with SE Missouri (26-26) by 4-12 and 12-2.. SEMO fought its way to the OVC championship game where they lost to Eastern Illinois (27-28) by 7-4 in the final game.

OTHER NON-CON OPPONENTS
UCA split a very close series by 1-2 over La Tech (23-31) in Ruston back in early March. The Bulldogs (Fresno State, that is, 37-27) ) beat Nevada (34-26) for the WAC title. Although the LTU Bulldogs hosted the WAC Tourney for the first time, they did not qualify for the event.

South Dakota State ended the season 22-27 and 9-11 in Summit League play. The Bears beat the Jackrabbits 3 of 4 in Conway to open the season (we will take any win over SDSU we can get....).

The Bears beat UALR of the Sunbelt in The Rock on 3/25 by 6-2 then again at UCA Field on 4/9 by 7-4. UALR ended the season at 16-32 and 2 games ahead of last place A-State (20-34-1) at 10-18 in Sunbelt play. Western Kentucky defeated New Orleans by 17-5 to win the tourney. Neither the Trojans nor Indians (or Red Wolves of whatever) made the tourney field.

UCA split wiith Murray State (21-30) on the road losing 1-0 and winning 13-8 back in March. Murray missed the Ohio Valley Conference tourney by 1/2 game.

UCA thumped UAPB twice as the Golden Lions managed on a 8-25 season record and missed the SWAC Tourney eventually won by Texas Southern over Prairie View by 12-11.

Very good information....this program had a very good year when you consider this is their second year in D-I.

I don't consider myself a baseball expert or a fan, but one couldn't help but to be please with the improvement of the program.

Good job guys..... :D
