After what I would consider a pretty good showing this weekend, the Bears face UALR tomorrow and St. Louis this weekend.

UALR is 2-0 after defeating St. Louis 8-2 and UAPB 5-0. St. Louis was at the same round robin and finished 2-1, splitting with UALR and defeating St. Peters.

St. Louis is off until we play them on Friday.

Not how I had hoped this one would have gone, but hopefully it shows the team some areas they need work.

Pitching change for UALR.. Bears have put up 3 in the 8th so far!! Bases loaded 2 outs w/ 3 hole hitter Marietta at the plate.. Bears have out hit UALR 11-10

Crap UCA loses 9-5

I stayed until the top of the 7th when frozen toes and dinner plans forced me to leave.

Sloppy game, two errors (at least when I left) and could have been charged a 3rd on the play at the plate (UALR runner scored from third on a foul ball fly that our SS caught cleanly running away from the infield).

Pitching was horrible: at least two hit batsmen and numerous walks.

I think our team has good potential, we went up there swinging the bat.

Clean up the fielding, fewer walks, and it would have been a close game.

Two errors led to three unearned runs. Without those runs it's a completely different game obviously. I know the team hasn't been on the field much to get in some real practice time - neither has UALR I'm sure and they had zero errors - but one player had both errors. Not terrible to make two errors in a game. It happens. But this is the second time that player has had two in a game, and we're just three games into the season. The rest of the team has just 1.

I played some baseball (not college) in my day, and I was no defensive superstar. So I know what it's like to make mistakes and for those things to get stuck in your head. Let's hope that he can shake these off and get things headed in the right direction.
