Ouch. Tough loss by our Baseball Bears. Very high scoring affair. I am positive our guys will bounce back tomorrow and win the series Sunday.

Fuller and Huchingson are the only players who had a good day at the plate. (I don't count going 1-for-1 which a lot of guys did today.) But the team as a whole had 10 hits and scored 10 runs. When you lose by seven that means . . .

The defense and pitching wasn't very good. How does a team score 17 while only having 13 hits? 8 walks, 1 hbp, 3 errors. That's how. I didn't write down Wild's ERA before today, but it's safe to say that it shot up after giving up 8 earned in 4.2 innings.

Really impressed with how the subs made a real come back. But even in college baseball, there aren't many 17-3 comebacks for wins. The late runs were thanks in part to some poor defense on Nevada's part.

Reese pitched today, so he's obviously not going to start this weekend. The Nevada Web site lists Pritchett and Ward as the Saturday/Sunday starters.

Yeah, I would like to unsay my apparent jinx.
Clearly getting to their bullpen will only help if our bullpen doesn't implode.
Big innings are killing us.
Too many innings giving up four or more runs.

Blake and Ethan continue to knock the cover off the ball. Huchingson is getting more at bats and still hitting well right now.

On the other side, Cox now has three losses. We have one pitcher with an era under .500. Just one. That's going to make it tough to win.

Nice win to salvage the series. Real good games by Dickson and Pair. Should bring a lot of confidence as they wrap up the road trip in Witchita, Kansas when they take on the Shockers of Witchita State. Of course coverage will be online, but you can listen to it as well with Steve Owens on The Bear 91.3 beginning at 6:40 with the first pitch at 7.

Don't forget, the Bears open Southland Conference play this upcoming weekend when they host Stephen F. Austin beginning Friday. Friday is also the first night game of the year at 6:30.

Nevada Drops Final Game Of Series 6-4 To Central Arkansas

RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (7-4) was unable to complete the three-game series sweep of Central Arkansas (4-6) falling 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Peccole Park. The loss snapped a four-game win streak leaving the Wolf Pack at 7-4 on the season while the Bears improved to 4-6.

UCA got a solo home run from first baseman Ethan Harris in the top of the first inning and never trailed the rest of the game. The Pack did get an infield single from center fielder Westley Moss in the bottom of the third inning to score shortstop Kevin Rodland to tie the game at 1-1 but UCA regained the advantage in their next at bat.

The Bears scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on second baseman Zack Dickson's two-out RBI double. Pack right fielder Brett Hart's ground out in the bottom of the inning closed the gap to a single run at 3-2.

Catcher Michael Pair drove in a run in the top of the fifth inning to put UCA on top 4-2 and his single in the seventh scored the Bears' fifth run of the game.

Pack first baseman Shaun Kort's third home run of the season scored two and Nevada was once again within a run at 5-4. UCA got a double from right fielder Jake Fuller to start the seventh and center fielder Tye Throneberry followed with an RBI single and it was 6-4, which proved to be the final score of the game.

Pack starter Brock Stassi (2-1) suffered the loss allowing four runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings on the mound. Dustin Ward (1-0) got the win for UCA as he allowed four runs, two earned in seven innings of action. Michael Wild (1), the loser in game one of the series, pitched the final two innings today to earn his first save of the season.

Moss (3-for-5,RBI) led the Pack with three hits while Rodland (2-for-4,R) and Kort (2-for-4,R,2RBI) had two hits each. Kort drove in two runs on the home run while Moss and Hart also had an RBI apiece.

Pair (4-for-5,2RBI) finished with a game-high four hits and drove in a twos. Fuller (2-for-4,2R) and Dickson (2-for-4,2RBI) finished with two hits each. Dickson joined Pair with a two RBI day of his own.

Nevada concludes a four-game home stand with a single game on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. versus Saint Mary's College.
