there will be much more coming out about this soon, but Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage will be in town April 29-May1 for our weekend series against Northwestern State. There will be events going on April 29 including a silent auction, with the Friday night game on the 30th being 'Goose Gossage Night' at the ballpark. This is a MAJOR opportunity to support this baseball program financially so I hope all you will get the word out for this big weekend.

good for the baseball program... Goose already has money!
But seriously, it's good to have a program that had a son of a Hall of Famer matriculate through and now have him willing to come back and do this for us. It's cool to hear the stories from Doug and Ronnie about Goose's Hall of Fame Induction weekend. So a big thanks to Goose for doing this for us.

as for the games, the Bears take on the team tied for 2nd place in the SLC with SFA this weekend. The Demons earlier in the season were projected to make the NCAA field along with Southeastern La. and Texas State. Not sure how that plays out at this time, but it wouldnt shock me.

NW State blanked Texas State yesterday 8-0, to win one of the 3 games at San Marcos. Apparently, had they not committed 7 errors or some number like that the first 2 games, they wouldve been in line to sweep or take 2 of 3. The Demons can pitch, period, and they feature one of the best closers in college baseball, Chad Sheppard.

Game times 6:30, 2 and 1, and as the post above details, a LOT to do beginning Thursday night around the ballpark all weekend long. Hope to see you guys at Bear Stadium all weekend long!

Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage will spend part of the weekend at a fundraiser for the UCA baseball program and throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Saturday's Arkansas Travelers game...

Hall of Famer Gossage reflects on changes in baseball
Posted: April 28, 2010 - 10:16pm
By David McCollum

While the toad dominates the spotlight in most of Conway this weekend, the University of Central Arkansas will focus on the “Goose.”

Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage, one of the best relief pitchers of all time, will be the guest of UCA for a series of events over three days to benefit the UCA Baseball Foundation.

He will bring to Conway some memorabilia for a silent auction, an abiding love for baseball and plenty of opinions on how the game has changed since he retired in 1994.

He was elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008...

decent turnout last night at the stadium. I expected more people,I guess, but for a 1st time event it went pretty smoothly it seemed.

Weather already looks like crap outside, it may be a long, or short weekend of baseball around Conway depending on your perspective.

Ballgame.
How disappointing.

One strike away from the win. Instead an error and a homer on a full count put us down one.

Then we go 3-up-3-down, along the way pinch hitting for a guy hitting .310 with a guy hitting .217 and only 21 ABs on the season.

And we pulled Bobby after the 8th to bring in the pitcher on our team who has lost more games than any other --- granted, I don't have a suggestion on who else to put in in that situation.

Heartbreaking loss and way to end the game.

NWSU 4-7-1
UCA 3-7-2

Bobby Prichett pitched a great game for 8 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 runs with 8 Ks and 3 BBs.

Michael Marietta went 2 for 4 and Michael Pair was 1 (HR) for with 2 RBIs.

Regroup and get the Demons tomorrow.

You know who I would have put in in that situation? Bobby Pritchett.

Dude had just got done mowing through the 7th and 8th and, going back to the 6th, had retired nine straight. Of those nine outs, two were strikeouts and only two were recorded in the outfield. The ball didn't leave the infield (between the lines, at least) in the 8th. So yeah it was late in the game and I'm not sure what his pitch count was, but that shouldn't matter. He was dealing. Unless he complained about having a tired arm or was hurt or something, I don't at all understand the rationale in pulling him for the 9th.

http://www.ucasports.com/sport.asp?action=news&sportid=7&article=3744

NWSU 4-15-3
UCA 5-13-0

Helps to make no errors....espcially when opponent gives you 3....

Getchell 3 for 6 with 2 RBIs
Throneberry 3 for 6 with 1 RBI
Marietta 2 for 2

Nice pitching by Ward, Brewer, McKinzie and Wild....

Be nice to get a series win tomorrow....
