was a good pitcher at Camden...i'm betting he doesn't play much football this year with the line of QB's in front of him but I'd have to think he'd stand a really good shot of contending on the baseball squad. anyone heard anything about that possibility? I bet Gum has seen him play being from LA(LowerArkansas) lol

Yea, he'll probably be no.2 after fall practice behind Dick and in front of Smothers.

Said that because Dick was under the same circumstances last year and didn't see the field much. Everyone made a big deal about how hard it is to get used to a new scheme and learn plays and anticipate the plays developing so I would just assume the same would hold true for Jim.

My question is "Will he be immediately eligible" for baseball because he was on football scholarship with the Hogs or does he STILL have to sit out for 1 year

Dick has not been impressive. It is an open quarterback competition and I would not be surprised if Youngblood or Smothers started in front of Dick.

Regardless, I hope the competition helps develop all quarterbacks. Each one can be great for UCA.

I would say Nathan was pretty impressive during spring ball. I'd think he'd have a definite edge come August.

Former Bear WR told me he saw Nathan this spring and thought he was making great progress and looked pretty good.....hope he is committed mentally to the P&G and ready to make his mark....

The couple of practices I went to Dick looked good. From everything I read Smothers hasn't looked just real great. Jim played TE with the Hogs last year, and at the spring game wasn't fully dressed, but I think he'll play ahead of Smothers but not Dick.

I'm on the Jim Youngblood bandwagon!!! Let's get him on the field! Let's bring back the two quarterback system from the Rogers-Stallworth days and start throwing 60+ points on the board again! Heck let's use all three QB's!!!

Wasn't this thread about whether he would play baseball???? Just wondering since this was the baseball section of the site. I'm a big fan of the football team (REALLY I AM) but I really wanna know if he is gonna have a shot at the starting rotation on the baseball team or if he is going to be a hitter.

I think he plays football - period. Some of his quotes I've read has said that. Also, with baseball overlapping spring football I wouldn't think that would help his chances by either trying to overtake Nathan or by staying ahead of Nathan if Jim were playing baseball. I think Conque puts a lot of emphasis on spring ball in getting ready for fall ball.

I think that is a bit of an understatement.

It all starts with the QB in this offense. No matter who plays, they better be ready to go. I know (Coach) Nathan will have all three guys rallied and ready to go. Lets just hope they slide in some film of when he played. I say Dick is the odds on favorite to have the starting job by the first game, but it is an open competition I would say.
