The Southland has a lot at stake this final weekend. The only thing assured is that Teaxs State has the #1 seed even if they lose all three games and that SFA, SHS, SELA and TACC are in the SLC Tourney. However, there is a lot of ways they could turn out as to which seeds each gets.

There is an option for Texas State to rest their pitchers but they need as many wins as possible to help their possible NCAA seed If they win SLC Tourney). That also disrupts their rotation.

It is pretty incredible that 11 of the 12 teams still have a chancee to get to the SLC Tourney. Only Northwestern State is actually out.

As I believe StevO pointed out, the Bears need to sweep and get to 15 wins to really have a chance. UCA owns the tiebreaker over Nicholls but Lamar and McNeese own it over the Bears as does UTA. If Bears sweep and move to 15 wins, then Texas State only needs to win two over UTA (14 wins for Mavs) and UCA is in.

McNeese 14-16 at Nicholls

Note: UTA, UCA and Nicholls are also battling to stay out of 12 th place.....pretty balanced conference except for Top 2.

Also Note: Bears are 6-6 vs TSU, SFA, SHS and SELA.... if they can squeeze into tourney, they actually have good reasons to believe they could do well. They were very competitive in 4 of the 6 losses.

Bears come up short in a 4-0 loss and are eliminated from the final race for the tourney. Had they won, with UTA beating the 1st place Bobcats, it would have been for naught.

Still something to play for. Need a win to stay out of 12th. Winning the last two could bump UTSA out if LU, MS and UTA win out...not likely but possible.

Lots can happen with seedings the next two days.

Game 2

UCA leads 5-4 after four.

Bears now trail 8-5 after 7.

Bears score 2 in Top of 7th to close to 8-7....apparently Prevett was called out on a totally botched call at the plate which would have been the tying run...

Bears lose 8-7 after Payne nearly homers in 9th.


Still somethng to play for as Northwestern State seems intent on sharing 12th...that would be irony as we dropped 2 of 3 to Demons earlier which hurt badly....
