Within the past couple of months the debate over a new stadium for the Bears has been brought up.

Anyone heard any news on this ?

I've heard there are plans to re-do the existing facility (if you want to call what is there existing) to have a brick facade that would match the football stadium and some theatre-style rows of permanent seating embedded in concrete. Probably waiting on funding for that type of thing.

Talk to a guy in the athletic deptmart a little while ago.

He said they had looked at refurbhising the old stadium and then all of a sudden the school started looking at the some property south of Dave Ward Drive for a baseball facility.

He indicated it is REAL early on these dicussions.

Stay tuned.

I love the location of the existing field as is. It is right there with all the major athletic facilities. But I would have no problem with a major facelift of the place. They've done some work over the last few years anyway to make it look better as is. But a better overhaul would be fine as well.

I don't see the benefit of moving the baseball facility away from all the other athletic facilities right now, unless they think they can make a bigger, better place than what they got. But it seems to me there is plenty of room to work with what they have got, and where it is located right now.

They did some improvement this past season on the infield but I did hear from some of the asst. that they were trying to get some money to do a whole remodeling job on the place! And maybe if they could get enough money and land just building a new statium all together

I hope they build a new one where it is, best of both worlds...which rarely happens in the real world! ;)

Yes very true, I don't see to many media guys coming to call the ballgame b/c the pressbox is so small. Maybe its bigger on the inside I just have seen it from being in the stands.

Yes very true b/c it seems like at all the bears games I went to this past year there was no media except the Log Cabin. Occasionally you would see the echo

I think we should leave it where it is. WE don't want our campus to keep spreading more apart like UA. A nice facelift would be great at the existing stadium. But yes, it does need something done to the field.

I like the location of the current facility, but that press box needs to be leveled.

From the looks of it, it seems like it would be hard to see the field if you are calling a ballgame?

Maybe that's the reason that play by play guy never knew what was going on.

Leveling the box is being too kind....dynamite might be better.
