It's time for the camps to break and the games to begin. The Bears will take on the Creighton Blue Jays this weekend at Bear Stadium. Opening Day is Friday at 3 pm, with pregame on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com beginning at 2:40. Saturday's game is at 5 pm and there will be no live broadcast of that on the radio. While the series finale on Sunday starts at 1 pm, with the broadcast beginning on Sunday at 12:40.

Always glad to have baseball being played.... would be nice to start with a sweep of the Jays...hope we have nice weather....Go Bears!!

Bears lose 5-1.

Bears tally 1 run on 5 hits and Jays get 5 on 11 with 1 HR.

McKinzie ptiched three scoreless innings on relief of started Angus. Bear pitchers strike out 7.

6 of next 8 before SLC play starts are at home...next weekend vs SIU-Edwardsville of OVA and then following weekend vs Murray State. In between go to ORU in Tulsa and lafter Murry go to Itta Bena for game at MVSC.

Two close games this weekend that could have gone our way....need to get some wins next couple of weeks.

Need new first base official too. 9th inning comeback was shut down by that horrible call. Yeah, we wouldn't have won the series, but that call decided the game for the bluejays. Sad. Just plain sad.

Talking to some Creighton fans they were shocked to see that call go that way. Some of the players in the dugout looked at each other in surprise too. Glad to see our coach go out there and argue the call.

Funny thing was another Bear fan yelled at him after the play was long over and he looked over at him and held up his hand in the "out" manner again. And no, it wasn't me.

Maybe BF101 can recall it better than I can.

All I remember is the momentum swing in our favor and our player making it to first by a full step, easily beating the throw and the first base official calling him out after a moment of indecision.

That would have put 2 on with J.D. batting.

That official won the game for the Blue Jays.He didn't let the players do it. That's what frustrated me so badly.

After holding them to just 1 hit for seven innings, he decided to end it I guess.

As I recall from Steve's game call, he said something like....."..the runner is safe by a step ...(short pause)....but the umpire called him out..."

He probably feels bad about it though.

I will say I don't think that (looked to be missed) call at 1B cost us the game. We were still down 4 runs in the 9th inning. We were trying to build up some momentum, but to say that cost us the game may be a stretch a little bit. Creighton did put 4 up on the board in the first 2 innings don't forget. And we still had opportunities through the game and only managed 1 run up to that point.

As for the weekend. It was a weekend of missed opportunities. I thought we very easily could've won 2 of the 3, but that's how it goes. They swept us and it's time to move on. Creighton is a very, very fundamentally sound program that wins a lot. I'm still very excited about the possibilities that this season holds!
