Huge sweep and an outstanding pitching day for the UCA BEARS! Not a single run scored on our pitching in 21 innings today!

BEARS RUN-RULE CARDINALS, SWEEP SERIES
3/10/2012 3:18:00 PM
CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears used their third dominating pitching performance of the weekend on Saturday to take a 10-0, run-rule victory over the Lamar Cardinals in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.

Senior right-hander Ryan Angus went the distance, allowing just four hits, striking out nine and walking none. The UCA pitching staff combined for 28 scoreless innings over the weekend and allowed just 13 hits. Four UCA pitchers struck out a combined 32 batters and issued just four walks in the three-game series.

The Bears spotted Angus (2-1) a 5-0 lead in the first inning when they got five hits and an error. The first three batters reached on bunts and junior Ethan Harris knocked in Forrestt Allday with a single to center. First baseman Bryan Willson had a two-run single to right for a 3-0 lead before third baseman Blake Roberts added a two-run single to center.

UCA (8-6, 3-0) added four more runs in the fourth inning, with three coming on Harris’ three-run home run to left field. Jonathan Davis added a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 UCA advantage...

The Bears will ride good pitching and a 5 game win streak into Lake Charles next weekend!

Impressive start to the SLC season. Holding Lamar scoreless in 3
consecutive games is no small feat. Congrats to the BASEBALL BEARS.

yeah, I'm sure someone can correct me, but I cant think of another time since weve been in the SLC where we swept a conference opponent home or road where all 3 wins were shutouts.

And if we think that's impressive, how about Texas State earlier this year? They shut out opponents for FIVE straight games - including a 3-game sweep of Notre Dame and wins over #18 TCU and Houston.

It's hard to hold teams scoreless. Anyone remember how many shutouts we had in 2011? One. We were shutout ourselves two times.

We lost the series to Lamar last season (also at home). So, if you want to look at it that way, we're two games up! :)
