After 10 games and however many days away from home (last home game was Mar. 25), the Bears finally come home to play 3 games at The Bear this weekend, hosting Nicholls State in a key 3 game set. Both teams are tied with 7-8 SLC marks (T-7th). However, with 6 SLC series left, the Bears/Nicholls Colonels are only 2 games behind 2nd place, and only 2 games ahead of 12th in the battle for the 8 spots in the SLC Tournament. The SLC, minus Sam Houston State is completely jammed up this year. Keep in mind that it'll be another 10 days before the Bears play at home after this weekend, so might as well come enjoy them now!

Game times are Friday night at 7 pm, Saturday afternoon at 4 pm and Sunday at 1 pm. All games can be heard on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com beginning 20 minutes prior to 1st pitch.

BEARS BLAST COLONELS 13-1 IN SERIES OPENER
4/13/2012 10:07:00 PM

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears piled up 16 hits and had consecutive five-run innings in blasting the Nicholls State Colonels 13-1 in seven innings Friday night in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (14-17, 8-8) broke open a 2-1 game with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Junior lefty Jeffery Enloe did the rest, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7 in his second complete game of the season. The Colonels (18-16, 7-9) got a lone hit in each of the first two innings, scoring their lone run in the second, but nothing more off Enloe (3-4).

Eight of UCA’s nine starters had hits, while second baseman Blake Marchal was officially 0 for 1 but walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored three times...

Enloe retired 13 in a row until a 2 out walk in the 7th, & followed that up with a K. and that was that. He was fantastic tonight! Game 2 at 4 Saturday.

Down 7-1 in the middle innings, no problem today!... Andy Steinmetz has thrown 6.2 scoreless innings and won both of his appearances since returning last weekend. It's safe to say it is great to have him back... Game time Sunday is at 12 noon. Hopefully we can get Game 3 in before the weather hits.

BEARS RALLY FOR 12-7 WIN OVER COLONELS
4/14/2012 8:03:00 PM
CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears rallied from a 7-1 fifth-inning deficit to take a 12-7 victory over the Nicholls State Colonels on Saturday at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (15-17, 9-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, then put it out of reach with seven more in the seventh to take the first two games of the three-game Southland Conference series. UCA, which had 34 hits in the first two games, piled up 18 on Saturday against four Nicholls pitchers.

Sophomore center fielder Jonathan Davis, last year’s SLC Freshman of the Year, had hits in his first five at-bats Saturday and finished 5 for 6 with two doubles. He is 8 for 10 in the series with 4 stolen bases, 5 runs scored and 3 RBI...

Maybe I should be out of touch more often...way to go Bears for the sweep.

Big stretch coming up for the SLC.

Next week in SLC:

UCA (10-8/16-17) at Texas State (8-10/20-15)....Bears can add some cushion

Lamar (6-12/13-21) at Nicholls (7-11/18-18)......someone needs to go 2-1

Sam (15-3/25-10) at McNeese (10-8/15-18)....I think we should hope Sam takes 2-1 at least

SELA (11-7/25-11) at UTSA ( 6-12/15-21)...hope UTSA can take 1 at least

NWS (10-8/14-19) at UTA (10-8/23-14)....root for NWS to push UTA back...we get NWS later

SFA (7-11/14-21) at TAMCC ( 8-10/15-20)...need another 2-1 series

Bears schedule below....cumulative SLC record of opponents excluding Sam as of now is 31-41 plus we get three a home....

Bears at Texas State
UTSA at UCA
NWS at UCA
Bears a SFA
SHS at UCA

BEARS SWEEP COLONELS WITH 5-0 VICTORY
4/15/2012 3:33:00 PM
CONWAY, Ark. _ A complete-game shutout by senior Ryan Angus sealed a Southland Conference sweep for the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Sunday afternoon at Bear Stadium.

Angus struck out eight, walked none and allowed just six hits as the Bears won 5-0 to improve to 16-17 overall and 10-8 in league play. UCA won its fifth consecutive conference game for the first time since moving to NCAA Division I in 2007.

The Bears broke open a pitchers’ duel between Angus and Nicholls starter Mike Wisecarver by scoring a run on a double by Jonathan Davis and an RBI triple by Ethan Harris. UCA put up another run in the seventh when Logan Moon greeted reliever Mike Suk with an RBI single to left on the first pitch he saw for a 2-0 lead...
