Fall 7-3 in the series finale. Bats were pretty much shutdown from the 2nd inning of game 2 until the 7th or so today. With consistent hitting I like our chances against any team in the conference come tournament time, and our pitchers are finding their rhythm too on most days. Red Wolves on Tuesday and we need to get back that winning feeling!

Standings as of April 23:
Top 8 = Overall (Conf) Remaining Conf Games
SHSU 28-13 (15-3) @ McN, vs SELA, vs HBU, @ UIW
SELA 27-17 (14-7) vs SFA, @ SHSU, @ UCA
McN 19-21 (14-7) vs SHSU, @ TAMUCC, @ LAM
HBU 19-21 (12-6) @NWSU, vs UNO, @ SHSU, vs SFA
UCA 23-16 (11-7) vs TAMUCC, @ ACU, vs SELA, @ Nich
UIW 25-16 (10-8) @ UNO, vs NWSU, @ TAMUCC, vs SHSU
NWSU 21-18 (9-9) vs HBU, @ UIW, vs ACU, @UNO
UNO 18-24 (7-11) vs UIW, @ HBU, vs Nich, vs NWSU
Nich 16-25 (7-11) va LAM, @ SFA, @ UNO, vs UCA

With the SELA series being in Conway, I think the Bears have one of the more favorable remaining conference slates.

My personal predictions for the remainder of the season. Gave McNeese the tie breaker over HBU. They will only play a single game this season rather than a series. McNeese won that one. I honestly don’t know how SLC would decide that another way. Feel free to call me a homer but I think we have a good shot at 2nd. That means we have to finish with a better record than BOTH the Cowboys and Huskies (they both own series wins over the Bears) and most likely take 2/3 from SELA. I think we can do that. Probably also need series sweeps over TAMUCC and ACU.

Current Predicted W/L vs remaining schedule (Predicted record & finish)
SHSU (15-3) @ McN(2-1), vs SELA(2-1), vs HBU(3-0), @ UIW(2-1)
26-4 (1st)
SELA 27-17 (14-7) vs SFA(3-0), @ SHSU(1-2), @ UCA(1-2)
19-11 (5th)
McN 19-21 (14-7) vs SHSU(1-2), @ TAMUCC(3-0), @ LAM(2-1)
20-10 (3rd)
HBU 19-21 (12-6) @NWSU(1-2), vs UNO(3-0), @ SHSU(1-2),
vs SFA(3-0)
20-10 (4th)
UCA 23-16 (11-7) vs TAMUCC(3-0), @ ACU(3-0), vs SELA(2-1),
@ Nich(2-1)
21-9 (2nd)
UIW 25-16 (10-8) @ UNO(2-1), vs NWSU(3-0), @ TAMUCC(2-1),
vs SHSU(1-2)
18-12 (6th)
NWSU 21-18 (9-9) vs HBU(2-1), @ UIW(0-3), vs ACU(3-0), @UNO(1-2)
15-15 (7th)
UNO 18-24 (7-11) vs UIW(1-2), @ HBU(1-2), vs Nich(2-1),
vs NWSU(2-1)
13-17 (9th)
Nich 16-25 (7-11) va LAM(3-0), @ SFA(2-1), @ UNO(1-2), vs UCA(1-2)
14-16 (8th)

Top 8 Standings as of 4/30:

SHSU 31-13 (18-3)
SELA 30-17 (17-7)
UCA 25-18 (13-8)
HBU 21-23 (13-8)
McN 20-24 (14-10)
UIW 27-18 (12-9)
NWS 25-19 (11-10)
Nich 19-26 (9-12)

Ran into a buzz saw against Hernandez and the Islander bats in game 1 but rebounded nicely on Saturday and Sunday against one of the better road teams in the conference to take the series. Got some help in the standing from the Bearkats with their sweep of McNeese. Really need to take care of business in Abilene this weekend. GO BEARS!!!!

Tyler Gray entered tonight needing 10 Ks to tie the UCA record for career strikeouts and 11 for the record. He got 15 in 8+ innings of work as the Bears beat Abilene Christian 10-3 in game one. Game 2 tomorrow at 2. Go BEARS!!

True. If we take 2 out of 3 from both SELA and Nichols we have the 2 seed sewn up. Obviously a few sweeps to wrap up the regular season would be huge for both
momentum and RPI heading into the Conf Tourney, but 2-1 in both series would give us a 20-10 league record and we would hold the tiebreaker over the Lions. HBU would then have to sweep SHSU on the road to match us. I don’t think that’ll happen. Gotta take care of business one game at a time. Let’s beat some Wolves. Go BEARS!!

UAPB@UCA

Lots of crooked numbers by Bears.........12 in the 3rd and 6 in the 6th.........have we ever had a 25-25-1 line? Looks like lots of Bear pitchers got their chance on the mound tonight......

UAPB 5-10-1 (20-23)
UCA 25-25-1 (30-18)

Strong was strong with 3/3 with 3 runs and 7 rbis.............Rouse 3/4 with 2 runs and 3 rbis.......LeBlanc 3/3 also.........6 others had 2 hits.......HRs by Strong, Smith and McCarty.......Golden Lions did give us 10 base runners with BB/HBP.........Bears used 5 hurlers.........

Now back to real business..........the Green Lions from Hammond come to town this weekend for a big SLC series...........Lions are 19-8 and Bears 16-8 in SLC play.......Go Bears!!!

You know I know stats are stats...but....watching the game in person last night we were jogging the bases in the sixth inning or holding up runners on purpose. I mean a triple was hit in the sixth and the runners moved up ONE base. Yeah you want to beat the opposition NOT embarass them, but those stats don't show the real story of that game. We had a freshman pitcher come in during the 6th inning and he gave up a few runs. Understandable. Same thing with football and likely other sports.

Proud of these BEARS! Good luck to UAPB in their tourney! =D>
