Here's how it looks for the Bears ending the year: 3 games remaining!

SHSU: 18-9 has NWST 5/16 - 5/18 (Remember Demons beat piggies but are bipolar)
UCA: 17-10 at Lamar 5/16 - 5/18.
IWU: 17-10 gets SLU 5/16 - 5/18
SLU: 17-10 visits IWU 5/16 - 5/18
--------- (Below teams can't win conference due to SHSU being 4 games ahead.)
NWST: 14-13
McNeese 14-13
SFA 14-13
Nich: 13-14
A&MCC: 14-16
UNO: 12-15
ACU: 10-17
HBU: 9-18
Lamar: 8-19 has UCA on 5/16 - 5/18

For UCA to win the regular season title:
*SHSU needs to drop 1 against NWST
*UCA needs to win ALL their remaining games against last place Lamar.

They can't take ANY games for granted against last place Lamar.

There's going to be some big DEMON fans in Conway this week!

Not sure how it works in baseball, but in football, if there’s a tie at the top, the title is shared. If there’s a head to head tiebreaker, that team gets the AQ (or in this case, the #1 seed in the conference tourney). Not out of the realm of possibility to see SHSU drop 2 to the demons who’ve proven they can beat the best teams in the country. Need IWU to drop at least 1 as well.

SLC Baseball Tiebreaker
https://www.southland.org/sports/2018/5/6/BASE_0506180958.aspx

2.03.04 Tournament Format.
The tournament shall be conducted in a double-elimination format on the Wednesday through Saturday of the weekend prior to the date of NCAA tournament selection. Two bracket winners will meet in a single-elimination championship game, regardless if one or both of the championship teams have a loss or are undefeated. If necessary, the tournament shall include an additional “rain day” for use the day after the championship is scheduled to conclude.

2.03.04.01 Inclement Weather Provision.
The Conference commissioner or his/her designee, in consultation with the participating team’s athletic directors, shall be authorized to make decisions on the remaining tournament schedule in the case of inclement weather. Should one complete day of the tournament be postponed due to inclement weather, the entire tournament schedule shall shift one day later to accommodate the double-elimination format. Should two complete days of the tournament be postponed due to inclement weather, the tournament shall revert to a single-elimination format at the moment of the postponement. Should three days or more complete days of the tournament be postponed, the event shall be cancelled, and the Conference’s regular-season champion shall be awarded the NCAA automatic bid. Should the daily schedules be partially completed, the Conference commissioner or his/her designee, in consultation with the participating team’s athletic directors, shall be authorized with the flexibility to consider schedule changes in the sole effort to complete the event. [8/12]

2.04.05 Tournament Seeding.
Seeding, 1 through 8, shall be based upon regular-season winning
percentage in Conference competition. A standard head-to-head tiebreaker shall be used.
Ties shall be broken based upon the following tie-breaker system. [1/13]

2.04.05.01 Two-Way Ties.
In the case of a two-way tie in the final standings, position in the tournament bracket shall be determined as follows:
(a) If two teams tie for a position, and one (1) team holds a won-loss game advantage in the series against the other, that team receives the higher seed.
(b) If the two (2) tied teams split their games during the regular season, or if they did not play one another, then the tied teams’ won-loss record against the next highest-positioned team(s) that played both tied teams in a series shall be compared. This shall continue down through the standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thereby gaining the higher seed.
(c) If the teams are still tied, a drawing shall be held by the commissioner.

2.04.05.02 Ties Between Three (3) or More Teams.
In the case of a tie between three (3) or more teams in the final standings, position in the tournament bracket shall be determined as follows:
(a) If three or more teams tie for a position, and all tied teams have played one another, the team that holds a won-loss advantage in the games played against the other tied teams shall receive the higher seed.
(b) If the three or more tied teams split their games during the regular season, or if they did not play one another, then the tied teams’ win/loss games record against the next highest-positioned team(s) that played all tied teams in a series shall be compared. This shall continue down through the standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thereby gaining the higher seed.
(c) If at any time during this tie-breaking procedure, the number of tied teams is reduced to two, the two-way tie-breaker listed in 2.04.05.01 shall apply; and
(d) If the teams are still tied, a drawing shall be held by the commissioner.

All we had to do is beat the last place team.

That's it.

The last freakin place team!

Pathetic.

Let's say I'm disappointed. May take me a tourney sweep to get over it.

I'll say it again.

EVERY. GAME. COUNTS.

Yep. Win yesterday and today and we are Champs and the 1-seed. Lose today and we are the 4. Gotta get the W today to secure a 2-seed next week. Let’s go!!!!

Bears get it done 4-3 over Lamar today to finish 19-11/29-25 and get the #2 seed. Several ifs and buts games along the way but a record number of SLC wins and highest ever seed. More solid pitching today and enough hitting to win.

Davenport/Cameron/Moyer makes for a good tourney pitching rotation.

Wednesday @ Sugarland
9 a.m. - No. 3 SLU vs. No. 6 SFA
Noon - No. 2 UCA vs. No. 7 NSU
4 p.m. - No. 1 SHSU vs. No. 8 Texas A&M-CC
7 p.m. - No. 4 UIW vs. No. 5 McNeese State

Go Bears!!

The two teams that gives us problems are on the other side. I’d imagine Davenport will be at his best given any start he makes could be his last.

As with most tournaments, one pitcher is going to be asked to log more innings than normal. Bears have options in that regard, so this is a very winnable tournament for us. Bats have got to stay active and we can’t lose runners on the bases which has seemed to plaque us at times.

I like the draw, let’s close it out.

UPDATE: McNeese lost first by 6-5 to Indiana State then was eliminated in next game 9-8 in 13 by Ohio State

Ok State wins Ok City Regional tonight and now gets Texas Tech in Lubbock super-regional.

As I recall, some team in purple and gray beat the Cowpokes at Stillwater pretty good this past ball season.

Great work...…..Go Bears!!

CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas baseball players Cody Davenport and Gavin Stone earned Southland Conference All-Academic honors on Tuesday.

Davenport, a pitcher from Fayetteville, was named to the SLC All-Academic first team, while Stone, a sophomore from Jonesboro, was named to the second team.

Davenport has a 3.33 grade-point average in Physical Education/Teacher Education. He was an All-SLC selection who finished with a 7-4 record with one save and had a league-best 1.98 earned-run average this season. He struck out a team-high 95 batters (third in the SLC) in 104 2/3 innings and tossed four complete games.

Davenport was an All-SLC Tournament selection after winning UCA's tournament opener with a complete-game, six-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk against Northwestern State and then saving UCA's 6-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana later in the tourney that sent the Bears to the championship game. He set the UCA school records this season with 272 career strikeouts, 365 1/3 innings pitched and 55 games started, while tying the career victories mark with 22 wins.

Stone has a 3.10 GPA in Physical Education/Teacher Education. He served as UCA's closer for most of the season and finished with a team-high six saves. Stone also started in UCA's second game in the SLC Tournament, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits in eight innings in an 11-0 win over Stephen F. Austin. Stone finished the season with a 4-3 record and a team-best 1.52 ERA. He struck out 58 batters in 47 1/3 innings.

The duo helped the Bears earn the No. 2 seed in the SLC Tournament and reach the championship game for the fourth time since 2013.
