PITTMAN GOES TO CAMP WITH BUCS

CONWAY, Ark. _ Former University of Central Arkansas defensive
end Jeremy Pittman has been invited to a three-day rookie mini-camp with
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that began Thursday.

Pittman, a 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from Summitt, Miss., was a
two-year starter for the Bears after transferring from Southwest
Community College. He had 24 tackles last season, including 5.5 tackles
for loss (-17 yards) and 1 sack (-8).

Pittman will join the Buccaneers' 10 newest draftees and
several other rookies and free agents trying to make a name for
themselves in a three-day camp at the team headquarters in Tampa. The
first practice is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.

"This is a great opportunity for Jeremy and his family,"
said UCA head coach Clint Conque. "I know this is an important
opportunity for him and he's worked extremely hard to get to this
point. I think it says quite a bit about the character of that young man
and I'm very happy for him.

"And it also says a lot about our football program, where we
are, where we're going, the abililty to get to the National Football
League from our program and from development in our program. We've got four guys, and possibly even another one, who are going to camp with
professional football teams. That's exciting."

So, other than Fairooz, does this wrap up the list that we thought might make it?
I'm guessing that the other one Conque was talking about was Aaron...

Here's to hoping that some of these guys make it on the squads.

That's good news. It's hard to find information on people not drafted in the first few rounds. It's near impossible to find current info on post-draft signees.

In other words, keep feeding us the information. :)

I could care less about all the other draftees and free-agents unless they are from UCA, but if anyone has any info on our players, please update!!!

EXCELLENT story here

Quote:
Pittman made the most of his few days in camp with the Bucs, though. He was awarded one of two game jerseys from head coach John Gruden for the best effort in the camp.

Only if NFL teams could see that more players are just like him on the FCS level..who knows how many BEARS we'd see playing on Sunday! Way to go Jeremy!

I just now ran across this from May 12 ---
Quote:
DEFENSIVE LINE - Among the linemen I think the one that runs the best, and that's important in this defense, is the tryout player from Central Arkansas Jeremy Pittman. Part of that may be due to the fact that he's the lightest of the D-linemen at 250 pounds, but he looks fluid out there.

Roster Moves

The Bucs tinkered with the edges of that packed roster on Tuesday, turning over two spots in order to provide depth at defensive end and a fresh leg among the kickers.

The two new players in uniform for the start of camp were Central Arkansas defensive end Jeremy Pittman and Washington punter Sean Douglas. Pittman participated in Tampa Bay’s rookie mini-camp in early May on a tryout contract and Douglas was at One Buccaneer Place last week for a workout. To make room for those two on the roster, the team released a pair of rookies: Syracuse linebacker Jerry Mackey and Michigan kicker Garrett Rivas.

The 6-4, 250-pound Pittman also received a tryout with the Buffalo Bills in May. His return to the Buccaneers helps a defensive end unit that practiced most of Tuesday without Simeon Rice and Charles Bennett. At Central Arkansas, the fast and fluid Pittman had 24 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 2006. In 2005, his first season at UCA after transferring from Southwest (MS) Community College, he recorded 50 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

Douglas (6-2, 218) finished his career at Washington with an excellent 42.8-yard gross punting average. He handled the Huskies’ punting for each of the last three seasons, putting up consistent gross yardage averages of 42.6, 42.6 and 43.2 from 2004-06. In 2006, Douglas punted 72 times for 3,110 yards and dropped 22 kicks inside the 20.

Both Mackey and Rivas were signed as rookie free agents after the 2006 draft. Rivas hails from Tampa and played his prep football just up the road from One Buc Place at Jesuit High School.
