Another Titan fined for hitting Peyton

Jacob was fined $5,000 for his hit on Peyton Manning last week.

Quote:
“I’m not surprised; they’re fining everybody,’’ Ford said. “You get in that bubble of quarterbacks and they are going to fine you. It might have been late, but it wasn’t anything vicious.’’

FORD TAKES SACK LEAD: Defensive end Jacob Ford’s five-yard sack in the second quarter gave him 5.5 sacks in 2009, the most of any Titans defender. Defensive tackle Tony Brown is now second on the squad with five sacks this season.

Interesting article that places Jacob as the #9 most effective defensive end based on "Pass Rushing Productivity Rating".

This takes the number of sacks, hits and pressures and factors in the number of snaps as well... Pretty interesting stuff, although admittedly the formula is subjective.

I'm paying close attention to whether or not the Titans cut ties with Kyle Vanden Bosch this offseason. They placed a tender on him earlier in the week, which means that he is free to test the waters. Here's to hoping he does leave! I would think that the move would make Jacob a starter.

and there you have it:

"Adam_Schefter Free agent defensive end Kyle Vandem Bosch agrees to a four-year, $26 million deal with Lions."

Let's hope Jacob can prove himself and snag that starting spot.

While this may be a good thing right now (and it's been known that KVB was headed out for a while now), it also means that the Titans are likely to take a DE with their first or second pick in the draft, potentially putting Jacob right back where he was fighting for snaps based solely on the amount of money the new guy's going to be making vs. a 6th round pick.

This mock draft has them taking DE Carlos Dunlap of Florida.

Of course mock drafts don't mean much, but it does, I guess, help illustrate that the Titans are considered to be in the market for a DE.

Even if he is fighting with the guy for snaps and the big money kid will get every opportunity to be the starter, if his inexperience comes into play once the season gets going and he's not producing then Jacob could still very well see the majority of snaps even if he's not the starter.

Whatever the case, it seems like he's pretty firmly entrenched in the rotation and that's plenty good. Glad he's doing well.

On prospects: FO loves Jacob Ford, Texans

The same list that has Marquez Branson listed at #24 has Jacob listed at #2!

Quote:
2. Jacob Ford, DE, Tennessee Titans
Placed in the second spot on this list a year ago, Ford held serve in 2009. He didn't see an increase in his playing time; in fact, he didn't start a game after getting three starts in 2008. He still showed signs of being a terrifying pass rusher, though, picking up 5.5 sacks, eight hits and 10 hurries as a situational pass rusher. Despite seeing far less time, Ford had as many Defeats -- plays which stop the opposition from getting a first down on third or fourth down, stops behind the line of scrimmage or forcing a fumble or interception -- as starter Kyle Vanden Bosch (13). Vanden Bosch has gone to Detroit, which opens up a spot on the defensive line. Ford's still a work in progress against the run, which may prevent him from claiming the starting job, but it's impossible to keep him off opposing quarterbacks. By the end of the year, we figure that Ford will be the man in Tennessee.

It looks like they also had him listed at #2 last year too? But I can't find their complete 2009 list.
