Ready for the next step

Defensive end Jacob Ford had seven sacks a year ago in his first actual season with the Titans. But, Ford has a goal of doing better this season.

Maybe not better in terms of numbers, as he had 26 total tackles in mostly a reserve role, but Ford says he wants to be more consistent through a 16-game season.

“I just want to be more consistent,” Ford said. “I started out the year doing OK, and then I really came on at the end of the year. I just want to start out from the beginning contributing and build on what I did last year.”

The Titans held their NFL "Play 60" event today, and Jacob was one of the players to participate. I'm guessing this is him here:

Jacob could at least let the kid try to kick the field goal without blocking it. Talk about aggression issues.

Jacob's (somehow) currently listed #3 on the depth chart.

He's behind William Hayes (13 total tackles and 1 sack) who was clearly outplayed by Jacob (26 total tackles and 7 sacks) last year.

Probably.

But I'll look at it and fix it tomorrow.

Thanks but the anticipation to read the article has left me for the moment. Maybe it'll come back in a couple of days.

I find it kind of ironic that old stupid here caught the botch-up.

Ask Reiss
Quote:
Q: I was wondering if you could ask some of your sources around the league about some of the players fans should be paying attention to but are not. Without the benefit of coach's film and an idea of what each team is specifically trying to do it can be easy for fans to overlook contributions from some unsung players. For example, Ty Warren could have zero tackles, never have his name mentioned by the broadcast team and still play a great game, but get overlooked because of the Pats' scheme. What do you think?
Matt

A: Matt, this is a great idea and it sparked me to call around to some players to ask the question. This is what I came up with, which ran in Sunday’s Boston Globe: Cardinals receiver Steve Breaston, Titans defensive lineman Jacob Ford, Cardinals cornerback Ralph Brown, Buccaneers safety Tanard Jackson, and Panthers fullback Brad Hoover. That was just a small sample, but it was entertaining to hear the responses, as players genuinely seemed to be enjoying shedding the spotlight on some players they felt were deserving.

Ford to have MRI: Defensive end Jacob Ford will have an MRI on his right hamstring Monday. He spent the second part of Sunday’s practice with ice wrapped around the back of his right leg.

“I’m just going to take it day by day,” Ford said. “I’m not worried about it.”
