Estes first 'real coach' for UCA football

Dan Estes was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1964 along with Julius Petty, Bill Carr, George Kell and Glen Rose.
Born in Carrollton on New Years Day in 1888, "Big Dan" never played football until he set foot on the campus of the University of Arkansas. But at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, he became a four-year football letterman for the Razorbacks. He also played basketball, baseball and was a shot-putter. The burly lineman was a force on the gridiron, playing on the Hogs' undefeated 1909 squad. Team captain in 1911, he sat out a year to work but returned to be named All-SWC in 1913....
