From 5/14/08 UCA Letterman's e-newsletter....

Aaron Fairooz is reported to have signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL and Tristan Jackson is reported as having signed with a CFL team and public announcement is awatitng CFL clearance of the contract.

Coach Conque notes the larger field in the CFL plays into the strengths of both AF and TJ.

Very glad to se these deserving guys get a chance to continue to play at the next level....

Yeah, I saw that in the e-newsletter. Too bad we're just a little bit out of the geographical CFL television coverage.

ACQUIRED – The Blue Bombers signed Fairooz as a free agent on April 24, 2008.

COLLEGE – Fairooz played four seasons (2003-06) with the University of Central Arkansas Bears. He was a three-year starter and received All-Conference honours following his junior and senior campaigns. In 2006, he caught 55 passes for 774 yards and had six touchdown receptions. He had 76 catches for 1,197 yards and 12 TDs in 2005. Fairooz was one of two Central Arkansas players who were invited to the 2007 NFL Scouting Combine. He impressed scouts with his size (6-6, 215 pounds) and speed (4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash).

Admittedly, not a UCA former player but another CFL signing.....

Vancouver (CFL.ca) -The BC Lions Football Club announced today that they have signed import receivers Dedrick Poole, Rufus Skillern as well as South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams standout Ben Wilson.

Poole spent three seasons at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Arkansas–Pine Bluff in 2006. He spent one year with the Golden Lions (’06), earning All-SWAC honors including SWAC Newcomer of the Year after leading the conference in all-purpose yards and setting a school record for the longest run from scrimmage with a 97-yard jaunt versus Grambling State. Poole, who split time at running back and wide receiver also led the SWAC in kickoff returns in 2006 and notched five touchdowns on the ground and another four as a receiver. Poole signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May of 2007 and was later released.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are pleased to announce the contract extensions of receivers Derick Armstrong and Terrence Edwards. ......Armstrong played in 11 games during his senior season at Arkansas-Monticello. He led the school in receiving that year with 65 catches for 1,200 yards and 10 TDs. He earned second team All-GSC honours.

I know we had a really good RB during Poole's years at Arkansas...but what a waste of talent sitting on the bench for the pigs when he could have been lighting up Estes! IMO. :!:

CONWAY, Ark. - A pair of former University of Central Arkansas football standouts will extend their playing careers to the professional level, as wide receiver Aaron Fairooz and cornerback/return specialist Tristan Jackson have signed on with Canadian Football League franchises.

The 6-foot-6, 215-lb. Fairooz, who concluded his All-American career with the Bears in 2006 as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards (2,797), signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Jackson – a 5-foot-8, 185-lb. defensive back who was an All-American at punt returner – recently finalized his deal with the Edmonton Eskimos.

It looks like Fairooz is also playing for Saskatchewan so a couple of Bears getting to play on the same team in the CFL. Good luck to them both in their upcoming season!
