AF2 Twisters turn to UCA for help

It was more like the Central Arkansas Twisters on Saturday night at Alltel Arena in North Little Rock.
Arkansas stopped a two-point conversion on the final play of the game to escape with a 63-62 Arena Football 2 victory over Amarillo before an announced crowd of 3,142.
Arkansas (8-4) is off to its best start in franchise history after 12 games and remained in first place in the Southwest Division with the victory.
Amarillo (2-10) was in position for the upset after Julian Reese threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Hair with one second remaining in regulation.
Hair caught the pass in a scrum of players in the back of the end zone after it ricocheted off the net a second time.
The Dusters opted for the victory, but Reese’s pass to wide receiver DuVaughn Flagler on a fade pattern to the right was incomplete.
Flagler was tightly covered by defensive back Brandon Freeman.
“I definitely lost some years on my life tonight,” Twisters Coach Chris Siegfried said.
Three recent acquisitions — all Central Arkansas products — played a major role in helping the Twisters snap a two-game losing streak. Wide receiver Aaron Fairooz caught 14 passes for 169 yards and 5 touchdowns (30, 11, 27, 12 and 23 yards).
Cameron Kinard had 7 receptions for 91 yards and 3 touchdowns (20, 20 and 14 yards).
Eric Ware (Little Rock Parkview) had four receptions for 19 yards.
Fairooz, 6-6, 218 pounds, gave the Twisters the lead for good on a 23-yard touchdown reception with 19 seconds remaining.
Taylor Rowan kicked the extra point to make it 63-56. The Twisters had tied the score, 56-56, on a 4-yard touchdown run by Chad Cook with one minute remaining.
Fairooz, a highly decorated receiver at UCA, and Ware were playing their first game for the Twisters. Kinard was in his second game.
Neither Fairooz, Kinard nor Ware had names on the back of their jerseys because the organization requires a twogame playing minimum, Siegfried said.
But all three former Bears performed like AF2 veterans, Siegfried said.
“It’s a great program,” Siegfried said of UCA. “I hope to continue the pipeline of Central Arkansas players here for as long as this team is in existence. If they don’t make to the NFL, they should be playing here.”
Arkansas quarterback Kyle Rowley completed 28 of 46 passes for 306 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Reese was 18 of 32 for 328 yards and 8 touchdowns. Alex Watson caught 6 passes for 142 yards and 4 touchdowns.
