Clint Conque suspended at SFA

Conque was suspended by SFA for violation of university policy per KTRE in Pollok, TX. Apparently didn't learn his lesson at UCA...

My first reaction to this was, “oh no how unfortunate.”

In all seriousness though, if this is another “personal” matter like what happened here, I do feel for his family.

But, I think it’s safe to say CC probably realizes now how good he had it up here. UCA will win fairly consistently no matter who is coaching.

I have a buddy that's an SFA alum and donor...he's telling me it's sounding worse than the "inappropriate relationship" at UCA.

He has reason to believe school funds and facilities were used in an unsavory way.

I'm not surprised in the least.

Conque is officially gone after resigning Monday. My source inside the SFA alum is now saying it is academic, but he says he can't say for sure. The administration has been keeping this under wraps pretty good. I would imagine it's safe to say this is the last we'll see of him in the Southland, but you never know...he might resurface as a QB coach or something.

I realize I'm very critical of Conque, but he did guide the ship from D2 to D1, and we hung some banners in the process. The playoff run in 2006 was very fun, and I hope we get to experience something like that very soon. That being said, I don't care how many games you win, it will never excuse the amount of lying that I personally witnessed and experienced in the means of covering his own hide. To me, it felt very similar to the Bobby Petrino exit in Fayetteville minus the drama (and media coverage). Without the drama or media coverage, Conque was able to hang around for a few more years to which I was extremely opposed, but, nonetheless, was allowed. It saved our school some embarrassment, but I wonder sometimes what's more important when these things come to light.
