Women's SLC Golf Championship Tourney

UCA WOMEN 6TH IN SLC TOURNEY

HORSESHOE BAY, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas
women’s golf team stands sixth after the first round of the 2007
Southland Conference Women’s Championship being played at the Ram Rock
Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay Resort.

UCA shot a first-round 319, led by sophomore Nicole Forshner,
who shot a 4-over 75 on the par-71 course. Forshner is tied for fourth
place, while Rebecca Sorensen is tied for 11th after shooting 77.
Jessica Ross is tied for 26th place with an 83 and Christina Lecuyer is
31st after shooting 84. Sanna Vilhervaara shot an 86 and is tied for
33rd.

Two-time defending champion Lamar leads after Day 1 after
shooting 306 in the opening round. Lamar’s Therese Nilsson is also in
first with an even-par 71. Mary Betancourt of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
is second at 2-over 73.

One stroke behind Lamar is Texas State (307), followed by Sam
Houston State (308), Texas A&M-CC (309), McNeese State (318), UCA (319),
Texas-San Antonio (327) and Nicholls State (337).

The final two rounds will be played Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sounds like the course is playing like the Masters. The leader in the clubhouse at even par... yikes.

Moving day at the SLC championships...

UCA is now in 3rd behind 1st place SHSU and 2nd place Lamar...

Field opened up quite a bit more...

Lecuyer shot a 72! That girl is awesome. If she has a repeat of that performance she could very well be in contention for individual honors.

Christina had the second lowest round of the day. Some girl from Sam Hooters shot a 71.
Here's hoping the Bears have a good round today and move up even higher on the board.

In danger of getting passed by McNeese St. and TAMUCC. They are both 14 and 15 over for the day at the 12th, and UCA is 20 over after entering the day with a 7 stroke lead on those two. Would be great to get 3rd or 2nd in our 1st Tourney. I think 1st may be out of the ? That 1st round 319 really killed us as the 2nd score of 310 was really competitive.

Forshner and Lecuyer are still in the top 10 for the tourney with Sorenson and Ross tied at 25th and Saana tied at 31st.

Well, it is over. The UCA Women's Golf Team finished....3rd....Congrats Ladies! Great finish for their first ever SLC Tournament! 2 players finished in the top 10 (4th and 7th)!

all the women's teams have faired extremely well in their first year of Division 1 and in the SLC!
