This has been such a weird season and I am way behind in reading about our sports other than football.......so,........

XC won its home meet as expected on 9/12 and took 10th at the always tough Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater on 10/3.....this may be the most challenging course in NCAA {I lived on the edge of the course when a grad student and ran it a couple times a week.....it wears you out with a pretty steep long incline to the finish.........and then there's the wind}.....then last Sat on 10/17 beat UALR in the Little Rock Open at War Memorial Park to win the I40 Series for XC.....

The Bears won the men's 8k (5 miles) 7-team meet over UALR and Louisiana by 26-41-86 and the SugarBears placed 2nd in the 9-team women's 5k (3.1 miles) meet as Missouri State won over UCA and UALR by 29-40-83....race times were somewhat middling but the War Memorial Course is known for being pretty challenging....two SBs finished under 19 minutes and set PRs......Tamara Reeves and Kennedy Timmerman.........

Successful season with something to build on for 2021 for sure....the teams achieved one big goal and that was to win the I40 Series over UALR in each of the two meets......Go Bears and SugarBears!!

Spring Meets..........not sure there have ever been spring XC seasons....that means distance runners are having to split training between 8K/10K work vs 1550/3000/5000 work.....plus try to run both indoor track races and outdoor XC races....

1/25: Southland preview......cancelled
1/29: UIW Invite at Live Oak, TX.....Men, 2nd; Women, 2nd...good tune up but missing some of other top SLC teams....Top 3 UCA Men were strong times....this was my race when a pup at 25 minutes.....brother ran 24:20 for 5 miles (bit farther than 8K) ...these are very good times.........good to see Hanson back in good form as he is a terrific track middle distance runner (800/1500) when well....Nores has really shown great potential this season......Hamilton has steadily improved while at UCA....

Max Nores led UCA on the 8K course with a personal-best time of 24:34.1 and placed third overall, his time ranks fifth in UCA's all-time record book. Alex Hanson came in fourth with a career-best effort of 24:37.9. With a personal-best run of 25:16.6, Jared Hamilton finished eighth. Parker Jackson recorded a 21st-place mark of 26:16.7. Tate Whaley placed 22nd with a career-best effort of 26:21.8.

Tamara Reeves posted the fourth-best run in UCA history with her career-best mark of 21:32.2 and placed third on the 6K course. Sara Steimel added a personal-best run of 21:41.0 and finished fifth. Kennedy Timmerman notched a 10th-place time of 22:10.9, which is a new career best. Bekah Bostian posted a personal-best effort of 22:46.7 and came in 18th. SLC XC Championships at SLU in Hammond

This was just another oddity for the year as the meet was run on pavement in and around the Southeastern campus rather than on grass.

SugarBears pulled the repeat with an excellent team performance led by Tamara Reeves in 6th place....

Bears took 5th with Alex Hanson leading in 12th in a very good time....

Based on looking over the results the race was fast, especially the men's. Part of that is due to running on pavement which should always be faster than grass but maybe also a bit short. The winner from SLU ran 8K in 22:41 which is 4:32 per mile which is awfully fast...he had run 23:40 at Tallahassee two weeks ago....

SLU easily won Men's race but the women were bunched close with UCA edging past ACU and SFA by a score of 86-89-96....

Good job by our teams and "game ball" to SugarBears!!!

HAMMOND, La. – The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Southland Conference Championships for the last time on Sunday. The Bears were led by Tamara Reeves and Alex Hanson, both earned spots in the UCA record book on the road course throughout the campus of Southeastern Louisiana. The women's team won back-to-back conference titles.

The two teams combined for a total of 11 career bests set at the championships as well as four All-SLC selections.

Reeves paced the Bears with a career-best time of 21:06.94 and set the third-fastest time in UCA history in the process. Reeves' run earned her a sixth-place finish and Second-Team All-SLC honors in the process. Sara Steimel collected second-team honors as well, after she produced a career-best mark of 21:34.17 and finished 10th. Kennedy Timmerman posted a personal-best run of 21:46.84 and earned third-team honors. With the best time of her career, Bekah Bostian notched a 22nd-place effort of 22:16.83. Anna Jeffcoat finished with a career-best time of 22:53.14 and placed 35th. With a personal-best mark of 23:41.30, Anna Bommes finished 49th. Charlotte Blair came in 57th with an effort of 24:05.50.

Hanson led the men with a 12th-place time of 24:13.66, which is the best time in UCA history, and earned a third-team honor. Max Nores recorded a run of 24:43.84 and placed 17th. Thomas Cain produced a 26th-place mark of 25:03.28, which is a new personal best. With a personal-best effort of 25:11.94, Jared Hamilton finished 31st. Hunter Henderson clocked a career-best time of 25:21.29 and placed 35th. Simon Schneider came in 43rd with a personal-best mark of 25:40.78.

From the Coach – Interim Head Coach Beau Theriot
"What a day! Both teams ran as best they could have and the ladies really made something special happen. Three all-conference performances paved the way for the team, but it really came down to the tight spread between our first and fifth finishers. Of course, this being on the road changed things up and gave us an advantage on the ladies' side. The men's team gave it everything they had. It was an incredibly strong field, and honestly fifth is a very respectable finish. Alex Hanson was an all-conference performer. Again, being on the road changed things from our usual routine, it didn't necessarily put the men at a disadvantage, but it definitely gave some other teams a boost. I'm incredibly proud of the teams and our staff, it's been an abnormal year."
