Demond Burns just set the State Record in the 60, timing in at 7.1 seconds.

Is the 60 a new event in Arkansas? That's a pretty slow time for a record at that distance – which is the primary distance that baseball scouts use, and they typically like their prospects to be under 7 seconds.

Reminds me of UCA's track teams – they'll have individuals finish 29th but shatter a school record because the event's only been done a handful of times in the program's history.

Dang I would have shattered that record. I ran a 6.63 in the 60. I could probably run it in under a minute now.

I guess we're probably talking a difference in distance, too.

This is probably 60 meters, whereas the baseball folk use 60 yards. 60 meters is closer to 65 yards, which would explain the slower times. A 7.1 in the 60 meters is like a 6.55 60 yards – which is moving along pretty good.

So that time actually isn't that bad at all.

track uses meters so this is 60 meters......I'll have to check whether 60m indoors is new distance for Arkansas high school this year....high schools used to run 55m indoors.....US 2008 indoor HS Boys leader for 60m is 6.64 and 7.10 probably would be in Top 100....still pretty good .......

With the programs being restored only in recent year, most events in past were set during use of English measurements...now track uses metric almost exclusively (mile is used indoors rather than 1500m simply out of tradition) so there are mnay events where no one at UCA has ever competed...ergo, new record set when first person competes...these records tend to get reset pretty frequently for several years until we "catch up"....occasionally somene wil run a very solid time but come in back in the pack of a very good field....you can compete in big meets like Texas Relays and set school records and PR that are quite good and get whipped unmercifully.....
