CONWAY — All of the fall sports teams at the University of Central Arkansas are busy preparing for their upcoming seasons, but the women's soccer team is taking it a step further.

They are preparing for the post-season.

The Bears, who play at home on Saturday at 5 p.m. in an exhibition against Lyon before beginning their regular season on the 22nd against Arkansas State in Jonesboro, have finished their transitional phase and will be the first UCA team eligible for NCAA Division I post-season play.

Pretty cool getting to play against the pros.
You don't see that in many other sports.

[/url]

CONWAY — There will be a distinctly different look to the University of Central Arkansas men's soccer team in 2009, as head coach Chad Flanders has finalized his recruiting class for the upcoming year and will have 23 newcomers in camp – plus two players who redshirted and didn't play a year ago.

It seems like Coach Flanders is really putting together a very nice team! I hope they do well and maybe they can get back to their level of prominence we were starting to achieve in D2 before we left.

Pretty impressive to have 40+ in competition for team. We can really establish UCA in men's soccer and be the first choice of most top players from Arkansas.

how many spots can occupy a roster for soccer once season starts? Or is there even a limit to the number you can have?

No roster limit on any sports really. The conference can stipulate how many people can dress for a road game, but since the men are not in a conference, they could travel all 42 guys.

Well soccer got underway today...the men beat Northeastern State 2-1 in exhibition play at home in front of a nice little crowd of about 200.
The women lost to ASU in Jonesborro today, 4-1. They were tied 1-1 after the 1st half, but ASU took a ton more shots than we did. Also noticed that there were over 700 people there...must be something about playing instate teams?!?

Funny how people like that intrastate competitin, huh? :D

It was also move-in day on campus which probably contributed.
