Barnett chooses tough path at Central Arkansas

Quote:
McKinney Boyd senior Alex Barnett finalized her college decision Wednesday by inking the University of Central Arkansas, where she will play soccer and study to enter the medical field. The combination of collegiate athletics and a tough major may seem too much to handle, but she’s ready for it.

“I better be,” Barnett said. “It’s going to be hard, but go big or go home.”

That’s the attitude Boyd head coach Jimmie Lankford likes to see. He said she’s got the drive and work ethic he looks for in a soccer player, and that she’s going to be a good player at the next level.

Sounds like a solid pick-up from a nationally ranked high school program!

[/url]

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas women’s soccer program has secured one of the largest, deepest recruiting classes in its history with the addition of 12 student-athletes who have signed national letters of intent to suit up for the Bears beginning this fall.

“We are very excited about this 2010 class,” said UCA head coach Tina Banham, who will be coaching her 10th season at the school. “We have added speed, athleticism and pure soccer ability with this group. We only lose one senior from last season and, by bringing in such a large and talented class to add to our returning team, we will have much greater depth at each position on the field. This class will provide us with a strong foundation as we move forward out of our transition into Division I.”

Josh, I have been to several soccer games this past year and can tell you that the talent is there, just the reinforcements were not! I'm excited about the teams, men and womens, and can't wait to relax on the green grass, soak in the sun, and chant for the teams!
