Lost a couple to SIU Edwardsville yesterday - at home. I really thought after last year's showing that we would be playing .500 ball and better this year. For anyone that follows the program closely, why the poor showing this year? I'm not being critical. Just looking for some reasons.

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't heard much about Holli Hill this season either.

I am surprised too by this season thus far. Scheduling is not the problem. They are good softball teams they have faced thus far and will face the rest of the season. If you looked at several of our games up to this point, we have lost several close ones because we did not get the job done. There have been several chances where we could have won the game, but did not seize the opportunity. I feel defensively, we are better than last year. We did not commit an error in yesterday's doubleheader. Also, majority of them is young. Several freshmen are in the starting line up. Our two leading pitchers are freshmen. I know it has been disappointing so far, but this will get better.

Josh, as far as your concern about Holli, I would say she has had a tough time pitching this year. Nothing to do with injury. Plus with someone like Kelsie Armstrong, who has the most wins up to this point, that is reason why you have heard much of Holli's name this year.

Bears play a huge series this weekend against Texas State. We play at 5 & 7 on Friday night and Saturday at 1. Should be great at least Friday night. Saturday has a chance of rain. But, come on out and support the softball team.

Great win for the Softball Bears today. That was great. To beat a very good team like a Texas State will do wonders for team. Bradie Baker pitched a great game. Rachel Baucom had a big two run homer that won it. Great defensive plays. All around nice win. Great crowd, too. Best crowd of the season.

We only played one today. We were going to get two in, but due to rain, we only got one. That means tomorrow's game is a doubleheader starting at 11 am. Weather by then should be good. Come on out and help our Softball win a big series.

Softball beats the first place Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks by the final score of 8-2 tonight at Farris Field.

Congrats to Kelsie Armstrong, who broke the school record for strikeouts in a season and has a great shot at being the first pitcher to reach 200 in a season. Bears also had huge games from the Bryant Sisters, Kasey Britt, Candance Gauntt, and Sarah Garcia.

The Bears reached several school records in the game. They broke the team season record in doubles (70) and total bases (535) and tied the home run record (35). The pitching staff also broke the season record in strikeouts (283).

Tomorrow's game is a doubleheader at 11 and if you attend the game, you will receive special pink shirts as part of Strikeouts for Cancer weekend.

It was an exciting weekend to watch softball especially when we sweep the first place Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. Bears have now won 7 of 8. Come watch them play Thursday against Ole Miss at 6 at Farris Field. You have to be there!
