With the month of January about to come to a close. It means yes winter is still here, but it is the start of softball season. Our Bears kick off their 2011 season against UAPB on February 10 at Farris Field.

Four players from the Bears were named to the Pre-Season All Southland Conference Teams. (2 1st 2 2nd) and the Bears were picked 7/8 in our conference.

The Bears didn't get off to the start they had hoped for at the Southern Miss Tournament going 0-4 against Kennesaw State and Southern Miss. They dropped all 4 games by a combined score of 7-17.
Hopefully they can get going in the right direction tomorrow against Mississippi Valley State down in Itta Bena.

I was able to watch a practice this week before they went to Baylor for the tournament. Things were tough the first two weekends, but they are working hard to get better. Winning two games against winning teams and one who is in the top 25 is huge for the program. Congrats to the players and coaches. I had a feeling they would win today and win against pretty good competition. They play Sam Houston State and Baylor tomorrow and Sam Houston State again on Sunday. Great job, Softball Bears!
