McCollum's Column: UCA donors to be ‘hittin ‘em’ for Bears in Great BritainQuote:
The golfing journey of a lifetime began when Richard Johnson, University of Central Arkansas’ assistant golf coach, approached UCA athletic director Brad Teague with an idea for a fundraiser for the golf program.
Go for it, he was told.
“The next day, he had put together a trip to some of the finest courses in Great Britain, plus a day at the British Open,” Teague said.
It took seconds for Teague and golf coach Ryke Dismuke to volunteer to be tour guides for the eight-day trip, beginning July 9, over eight courses in Wales and Great Britain, including Celtic Manor, where last year’s Ryder Cup was played.
Twelve donors contributed $8,000 each for the trip and to play on some courses that it takes a special connection for visitors to play.
Teague estimates the trip will raise about $30,000 for the UCA golf program.
