McCollum's Column: UCA donors to be ‘hittin ‘em’ for Bears in Great Britain

Quote:
The golfing journey of a lifetime began when Richard Johnson, University of Central Arkansas’ assistant golf coach, approached UCA athletic director Brad Teague with an idea for a fundraiser for the golf program.

Go for it, he was told.

“The next day, he had put together a trip to some of the finest courses in Great Britain, plus a day at the British Open,” Teague said.

It took seconds for Teague and golf coach Ryke Dismuke to volunteer to be tour guides for the eight-day trip, beginning July 9, over eight courses in Wales and Great Britain, including Celtic Manor, where last year’s Ryder Cup was played.

Twelve donors contributed $8,000 each for the trip and to play on some courses that it takes a special connection for visitors to play.

Teague estimates the trip will raise about $30,000 for the UCA golf program.

I'm confused. They're spending $96,000 to make $30,000? #-o

I doubt those 12 people would contribute that money without some incentive...traveling to Europe and playing at those courses must be pretty important to them.
It gave the golf program $30,000 more than they had before!

That's the way it works.....you and me give $100 bucks and get a new sticker for the truck...others pay $10,000 and get a little more..... as long it nets $30,000 it will be great...they probably would spend this money golfing somewhere anyway.... I used to know a guy who spent 10 days every year in Scotland playing golf......might as well capture some for golf team.....
